Default Riddle me this

Fellow RC tankers

OK, this is the scenario:

I just installed a mato 3:1 gearset in HL PZIIIH. I never ran the original gearset because of past failures, and didn't want to break in the original HL metal gearset. BTW it has an RX14. The transmitter was from my Stug III with the RX-18, and I switched out the crystal to match the PZIII. On add'l point that may be vital is that of course the PZIII and Stug III are front drive.

a) Go for a test drive with the PZIIH and everything works except left joystick turns right and vice versa.
b) My first reaction is to switch the gearset plug, but now forward joystick retreats and back joystick advances
c) Now I don't get, so I switch crystals to match Stug, and test drive Stug - everything works as normal

So before I try to perform what I think is correct solution, can someone provide guidance? If I had to guess I need to reverse the polarity on the gearsets and reverse the plugs (right to left).

If that is correct, that would just figure, because earlier this weekend I installed a mato 3:1 gearset in my KV-1 (rear drive) and contols were reversed (forward joystick resulted in retreat and back joystick resulted in advance)

I ran into the same thing with my Mato's, I just depinned the motor connectors and switched them around in the connector.
After that forward was forward and reverse was reverse.

Fsciorelli, You can also reverse the wiring by unsoldering the motor leads at the solder tabs on the motor endcaps, and swapping the red and black wires
on each motor.Leave the little noise filter/capacitor in place. That`s what I had to do with all three of my mato gearboxes.

Thanks 204sailor,

I have unsoldered and resoldered the leads on my KV-1 gearbox, so I know how to do that. Thought I might look into the alternative of swapping the pins this time.

The 2 small exposed rectangular sections of metal on the connector are the locking tabs,
push down on them with a small screw driver and they will slide out.
Then just pry the little tabs back up and insert them back into the connector.
