I am interested in a Tamiya King Tiger already built that some one has. He is asking $300.00 for it.. It is the old dual clutch model. Has turret rotation,with strobe light in barrel but no barrel elevation.Nice looking paint job.Has radio runs good he says.That sound like a fair price or what would be? Thanks for any help.

Nothing wrong with 300$, but for future upgrade is like buying a latest model or car.

If money not an issue.

Just buy a new one with heavy duty gear box for 500$. You have more enjoyment and appreciation out of your own effort. The last time I built my tiger tank(taimiay of course) , it took me 9 days, 4 hours a night.

Compared with the electronics that come with the (new) $575 version (http://www.aaftankmuseum.com/Kingtiger.htm), I think $300 is not low enough, unless you simply have to have a KT, and aren't concerned with the electronics.

Go look up what a DMD (think that is correct Tamiya name) sells for all by itself, and I think you'll probably agree, the $250 extra for a brand new KT (with I also assume are better gearboxes) is worth it. Tamiya folks please chime in if I'm mistaken and the DMD does not come with the tank. I believe it comes with everything short of the actual radio.

Or, wait until (if) the HL King Tiger comes to fruition.

IMO the Matorro one is ok (no offense Matorro owners), but the way HL has been getting better release to release, the next tank out from them should be a real good piece, hopefully its the KT. That is, of course, if a HL would do what you want it to do.

This is the original version King Tiger, no sound or anything, single motor drive as you mentioned, no recoil etc etc. This model originally came out in 1974 or so. Price is a little steep for one of the older ones, radio or not. On the radio, it may well be an original also, hence a little behind the times. Can you post a photo of the tank and radio?

If you want any kind of sound or more current features such as recoil etc, go with a new King Tiger kit. When Tamiya came out with the full function KT, they didn't just slap in DMD/TO systems, they completely redid the tank. Completely different lower hull, albeit using the same wheels and suspension parts, and many modifications to the upper hull and turret, mainly inside for mounting the full function machinery.

Here's one I did in about 1986. I think I put about 10 minutes total run time on it I'd like to get rid of it but shp'g would be a real pain, so it just sits in the shoppee.

How come only 10 minutes? Tank looks good though. I had a friend when I was stationed in Holland who bought the Tamiya KT around 83 I think. Same thing he built it, ran it once and as far as I know never ran it again. I wonder what happened to the KT and Ken?

i have bought last year such a clutch tamliya for 180&euro; you can try to lower the price a bit, later on i go build in the dmd and mf unit in it but although it is a clutch system it works very well. Compared to my FO ardennes KT Henshell late it runs very well but no noise are recoil but on ebay i had bought the systen new for 30&euro;, i now looking for the MF and DMD controllers.
300$ is a nice price when its in mint condition, just buy it but try to get a bit lower the price

My research, in the past, revealed the debut year of the 1/16 RC Tamiya KT to be 1981. I believe that is also the year stamped on my Porsche KT static kit's upper hull (that kit debuted in 1994).

How is the F/O lower hull different other than having twin bushing road wheels instead of single bushings? I thought is was indentical otherwise to the DMD "only" KT kits from the late 1990s.

Might have been '81, thought the inside of my old KT had '74 stamped in it. Have to look.

Lower hull. The older one did not have sponsons to cover the tracks, and the rear hull mount was a thin metal side to side bracket. Also if memory serves the transmission mount holes were different, and no machinery deck or holes therefore.

FO hull has bolt on aluminium sponsons almost full length, upper hull mount is normally the speaker, an electrical equipment deck is included, and the holes for TU are correct for the dual trans systems.

I forgot about the sponsons, my Porsche kit doesn't have them either. I don't even recall how the upper hull mounts on mine. I don't remember from when I last had the box open. Guess it has the metal bracket.. I do know the kit isn't coming out of its box again anytime soon. It will be in storage for a good while yet.

The kit of the Porsche KT is history, tamiya has discontinued it. Last year i've read also they stop producing their Henshell KT's, anyway their is still stock of it but as i mentioned this don't last forever.
What tamiya doing with the spareparts for all the guy's which bought on one, ( i have four tam KT's) i realy don't know i hope they continue deliver the spares
