Default 3:1 gears to Buy?

Hi All,

I thought I saw this post, but couldn't seem to find it. Can you buy the gears and build it yourself?

And if you can, is there a simple tutorial on how to do it?

I want to try this on my tiger...

Its not hard to do but i have had a hard time finding the gears. This gear is from a mato sherman box the matorro gearboxes have gears that work to. You can use 48p spur and pinyon gears from pc cars but buy the time you buy them it mite be just as cheap to just buy some 3/1 gearboxes.

Hmm....well that sucks......maybe if I knew what gears were what I could outsource them. The 3:1 gear sets are about a $100.00 from what I have seen.....seemed alot to me.
But your right, might be worth it once you bought them, I don't know.

Personally, I like RCCommand's steel 3:1s. They work well, but they're not low-profile like some of the others. Just something else to consider.

I didn't think those had the further 3:1 gear reduction. I have always thought those were just steel gears running the same ratio as stock gears?

He has two sets. One is a gear reduction set and one has the standard gearing ratios. Both sets are steel.

This what you're looking for Skitt?

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8142064/tm.htm

Done this myself on my 2007 model year HL original first generation S&S Tiger 1 using all nylon gears and running
original standard suspension,sprockets,idlers,RX13 board and Tamiya tracks.

It has a few other mods, the board turned over and a big heatsink fitted, hull stiffening bars fitted, but by and large,
apart from the usual mantlet, gun length, pistol port, paintjob and weathering that most do to'em,it's still an OOB
tank.

Phils 3:1 are great, however.... you will need a faster motor (like a Speed 400) to give then any meaningful speed.

No, Bill does have 3:1 STEEL gear boxes now. The original ones weren't but now he has both. I have them in my Tamiya/HL Tiger and they work great. RCCommand STEEL 3:1 gearboxes.

Yeah this is really a no brainer. Get the Asiatams or RCCommands Steel 3:1's and some Speed 400 motors and your done. Keep in mind though that the Asiatams mounting holes don't always match every tank. RCCommand has boxes with the Steel gears for every model including the low profile type now.

Yes he is TJ. Had had a really rough time last year for some known and some unknown problems , but yes he is still in buisness and working very hard to build back up the buisness and his reputation that kind took a beating due too some things that were out of his control. Though the Asiatams boxes are really good, Bill's Steel geared boxes work really well.

No probs Shawn,glad to help.
It's a shame you're the other side of the pond,if you'd have lived in UK and supplied me with
the extra gear and your boxes,I would've drilled your cases and built you an all nylon
pair so that you could try 3:1's for yourself to see if you like them before shelling out bigger money
on a swanky all-steel pair.

From what I read they don't suit everyone's application without fitting 400 series motors.
Personally I like mine with the 380 motors, they make my Tiger move like a 50 tonner should.

Mark, yes that would have been awesome......one of these days I'll get over there......worked with many UKer's here in the states.
I heard some interesting stories about the war from them......scary perspective.

I want my Tiger to move like a real one, slow.....i'm also interested in that bull dog pull that I have read about. Right now, can't afford to go steel, but seems like the plastic gearing would still do it for now, till I can upgrade.

Would be great if someone put a FAQ tutorial on doing this, like the ones we have on the forum for correcting the mantle, installing a board, etc.

I may just drag my brother into this.....he's very mechanical.

Thanks again Mark......keep in touch!

Hello All, My two cents. I have had a set of Bill's Steel 3 to 1 in a Pershing for two years with no issues and or mounting problems. They drop right in. It has been awhile since I last ordered but they worked extremely well. Again no mounting issues at all.

Be Well,

David
