Now this makes for a bad day! Not to worry, only a broken collar bone among the crew.
The gunner had to manually rotate the hull for the crew to escape. I'm sure the flame at the butt end was a great inspiration.

Don, Here's a couple more....Easy 8 Sherman; we hit a dry screek bed wide open and tried to hard left out of it. Sgt Feagan was riding TC and rode the turret 'til everything stopped, then climbed out the bottom of the turret. CO wasn't overly happy about it and the two of us had to take the VTR and set it up. Hardest thing was putting the turret back in the ring.
The M-48A2 was a brand spankin' new tank with no more than a dozen miles on the odometer. Backed up into a WW II giant bomb crater and flipped twice on the eay down. I lost a very good buddy and the driver got out thru the escape hatch but had severe psychological problems after this. The M-1 crew was very fortunate.
