Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

Novice here needing help getting this tank setup for a present at the end of the month for my son. I just connected all my electronics with my BR6000 and Spectrum DX6. I tested the controller and got it bound. It seems like the left side of the controller controls everything. Can someone tell me what next steps I need to take to get the turret to be on the right side of the controller and the left side is just movement? As well as setting up my main gun and MG with the two top buttons?

Are you using a DBC or ElMod?

Not sure what you are asking. It is a Tamiya Sherman M4.

My bad, didn't realize you had a Tamiya.
I was thinking upgraded HL's.........

Thanks for the link Ex_Pat_Tanker! The link looks very helpful. I can't wait to see the look on my soon to be 6 yr old's face when he gets the tank for battle at the end of the month for his 6th birthday at the Tank Musuem in Danville, VA http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

HELP! I followed all the instruction and have my Sherman put together. But the DX6 left controller seems to be controlling everything. I even followed this guide in setting up the controller. http://web.mac.com/ethandunsford/DAK...Room_2011.html Even configuring the DM is not recognizing the right hand side of my controller. Is this normal? I also did not plug in CH3 or CH4 since the Tamiya instructions noted not to. What am I not doing? Main Guns and MG is also not working.

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

The Sherman coud be run with a 2 or 4 ch. radio. Unfortunately the instructions just show how to run it with a 2 ch radio.

I would reset the plug in Ch 3 & 4, then reset the DMD (Pg 29)

- Switch off tank

- Hold down the Settings Button on the DMD

- Turn the Tank ON, wait 20 sec

- Indicator Light will shine Orange or Green

Go to the Tamiya site and download the Tiger I manual and follow the programing for two sticks

PDF book

Tiger Page, manual is in the upper right corner.

What do I plug the Ch 3 and Ch4 into? I have a BR6000. Aileron and Elevator repectively?

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

plug in throttle channel 1 channel 2 rudder channel 3 gun elevation channel 4 turret rotation then you need to go into radio programming and set all the servo linits to max and all the funtions will work you will not need to set trims to max to fire cannon or mg just stick to top and gun fires stick to bottom mg fires

Thanks bubba but you are talking with a novice. Not sure how to navigate through the programming piece on my DX6 besides the guides from the link above.

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

It is also possible to plug the servos in differently. I THINK mine is set up per stock Tamiya conifiguration - Throttle & Turret Rotation on left stick, Steering & Main Gun Elevation on the right

Ch 1 - RUD

Ch 2 - Throt

Ch 3 - Elev

Ch 4 - Aler

You can always switch them around if you don't like the configuration. Some guys in our club like to put steering and throttle on the same stick.

dlobmwm3 03-30-2011 06:48 PM

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

LOL. I'm just trying to get it to work period! Ideal setup for me is turrent and elevation on left and throttle and steering on right side. How would I set it up this way?

I also notice that my turret rotation is limited it stops only to the corner of the tank for each side. What should I check for that is impeeding this from rotating all they way?<br type="_moz" />

dlobmwm3 03-31-2011 04:07 AM

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

Ok. Last night I managed to figure out why the turret was limited. There were two notches that were not cut off that was preventing the turret from turning all the way. Tamiya should have cleaned these if the cover to the hull was never attached to anything.

So I performed all the steps (including those suggested above by you helpful members) and have all my wires hooked up as stated in the instructions and with this configuration.

Ch 1 - RUD

Ch 2 - Throt

Ch 3 - Elev

Ch 4 - Aler

Here are the only thing that work....

Left stick - controls turning movement ONLY when you push the stick in the diagonal corners
Right stick - controls turrent movement
Sound

Here is what does NOT work....
Forward and Reverse
Lights
Machine Gun
Cannon
Movement of Cannon (up/down)

Could I possibly have a bad DMD, T5, Receiver? All of which are new. Have spent 3 days total at night (from 10 - 12:30 am) trying to figure this darn tank out. I'm about to pull my hair out.

Alright, I rechecked all my wires and realized the motor hookups were reversed. After attempting to reset the T05, the unit is now stuck with 2 blinking orange lights. What do I do now? Is it fried? Despite numerous times in resetting the the DMD T-05, I have been unsuccessful as it continues to give me two blinking orange lights for the drive indicator.

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

Flashing orange lights on the DMD indicate no control signal is incoming from the receiver.   Specifically, the rudder channel.  I'd suggest checking your bind between the radio and rx with a separate rx battery and servo. Remove the rx, rebind, and connect the battery to the battery terminal.  Plug in the servo to 1 channel at a time and verify it works.  Then, once you have it where you know it will run, add it back into the tank system and connect it to the DMD.

So you don't think its fried? I did have to reset my DX6 based on the suggestion by HondoBob. You think that reset my binding to the BR6000?

RE: Configuring a Tank with DX6 and BR6000

It is very unlikely that the Tamiya equipment is defective (possible, but very unlikley). Tamiya electronics are very durable.

It is advisable to verify that your radio system is working correctly before looking at the tank's electronics. I've told you how to verify the radio is sending and receiving signals (battery and servo trick).

Before you verify the radio, please check your tank's 7.2v battery charge by removing it, and recharging it fully (regardless of whether you think it is charged or not). A little known fact is that Tamiya DMDs have an integral low voltage cut off which protects the electronics from a brown out (low voltage). If there's low voltage situation, the DMD will internally cut off the rudder channel power to the DMD. The DMD will exhibit symptoms akin to what you describe yours to be doing (tank does nothing, and has two flashing orange lights on the DMD).

I hate to say this but I beleive there is an age limit for playing on the Danville battle field. I may be and hope I am mistaken but you should find out before you make a promise that you may not be able to keep. Some club members may have objections to running thier exspensive models on the field when such a young tanker is present.
You may be able to find out the battle feild rules on the AAF website.

I've had occasional hiccups with my DX6 which required resetting the transmitter, and binding to the receiver again is a good practice. Though I happened to have the bad luck of getting a malfunctioning receiver one time, the BR6000's have a well earned reputationfor excellent quality. Once your DX6 is reset and bound once again to the receiver it seems the final challenge would be properly setting the DMD to your preferred controls. In my case I like to set the left stick to thrust (ch1) and rudder (ch2), while my right stick is set to elevation/flaps (ch3) and aileron (ch4). In other words, I drive/turn with the left stick and point/shoot with the right stick.

No expert yet but getting there.<div></div><div><div>So my friend tried to assist in my efforts last night at the house and still no luck. </div><div></div><div>I have now hooked up the Spectrum DX6i and BR6000 with the right stick controlling the steering and throttle. The left stick is controlling the turret, main gun and machine gun. Note: We have gone through the setup of the DMD countless times with success.</div><div></div><div>Here are my issues. When throttling in forward or reverse the tank pulls to the left when the trim is set in the middle. We had to adjust the throttle trim all the way to the right to make it drive half decent. It is still pulling to the right. How would I fix this or is this a DX6i issue as I purchased this used on eBay. I rechecked the tention of the track and it all the forward (loose) to see it that would help. The second, is there a way to make the left stick spring loaded for the up and down? Currently the left stick springs back if you go from right to left vice versa but not up and down.</div><div></div><div>Next issue, how to I get the headlights and taillights to come on?</div><div></div><div>Lastly, we could not get the main gun or machine gun to fire on a consistent basis using the flip upward for main gun and flip downward for machine gun despite making the sensitivity as high as we can get it. So, how would I move the main gun and machine gun to the one of many switches on the DX6i? If so which ones and how could I accomplish this as I think I can do this on my own with good instructions.</div><div></div><div>Other non related questions. How can I program the controller to turn the tank on and off via the DX6i?</div><div></div><div>THANKS IN ADVANCE!</div></div>
