Kill Rings

Im no expert with a paint brush and don't have a steady enough hand to paint kill rings on my tiger. Im wondering what you guys use if anything and what is the fastest and easiest way to make them. Im leaning towards simple masking tape and spraying it. Would like your thoughts.

Thanks.

Panzerace,
I you want them to be clean, fast, simple and consistent, just use decal film. Most Hobby shops should have it in stock, and if not defintley easy enough to find on line. 1 sheet should be enough to do just about every tank you own or will own that you want to add kill rings too. Solid decal sheet ususally only runs a couple bucks a sheet, and is available in any color you would most likely use (white, yellow, red, or black).

Simple cut to width with a sharp x-acto and a straignt edge then cut to length and then wrap around the barrel, all you have to concern yourself with is consistent spacing, piece of cake!

Just my 2 cents!

You can also use pin striping tape as a mask, or if it is thin enough, just leave it on.

All of these suggestions are great, but if I were to do this I would use masking tape. Practise on a comparable size 'till you feel you got it down.

One tip though, once you've laid the tape down, spray it with a clear coat first to "seal" the tape so there's no bleed through of the white paint. You'll be glad you added this little insurance to the task. :D

You can also chuck the bbl in a drill. Get it rotating and then paint them on with a steady hand.

The represent tank kills, like the flags on fighter planes.

I was wondering when Wittmann would be brought up, the kill rings on this Tiger are purely for propaganda purposes no one would be mad enough to want to stand out on the battle field just think of a sniper in a high visibility jacket then you will get the idea, on other tanks and there are relatively few pictures showing kill rings they were mainly painted as thin as possible 10-20mm wide and more often painted black though you do see white and yellow, bright colours stand out also individual tanks with special or individual markings stand out this would encourage the enemy to target you first.

The interesting thing about kill rings is Wittmann never had them a few months after this picture was taken in Normandy and of all the other Aces there are only a small handful of pictures showing this tradition and none of the pictures are taken at the front always in a rear area during rest or repairs

Even in light of this information, kill rings still look cool. As a matter of fact I just dug out my half finished 1/15 Bandai Tiger I and the decal sheet has them, so I think I'll have to splash them on anyway. :)

I mean after all, it's just a model. :D
