Heading to Danville Va tomorrow to pick up a couple of King Tigers for my E-100 and King Tiger/ E-75 Hybrid. I want to do the long gun on the E-75 but can't find a barrel long enough. I was told by a fellow tanker to use a fishing rod to make the gun. My question is how? Are there hollow fishing rods out there that I don't know about?

The ones I buy from Walmart cost $7, and have three hollow sections that fit inside each other - each section is around 3 feet long. They sell them under the brand "Kwik Stick Bream Pole" and the markings on the pole say that they're made by South Bend. I've also seen similar ones at Sports Authority, but they're about three times the price. -Mike

RE: E-75

Just a thought, I have done a lot of reading on the e series....why are you following the trumpatear design so closely? There was no turret that was designed for the e50 or e75...the e50 was supose to receive the king tigers gun and the e75 was to receive the "new" 100mm gun but that was all that had been decided. The E100 was in the contract as themaus soit would get the126mm gunand since it had the same turret ringsize as the maus people decided that the sameturret would go one the e100......ButI tend to think things would have gonethe way of the king tiger.....prosche had 50 turrets made in advance so even thought he did not get the contract some king tigers were fitted with the turrets from his contract offering.....the maus turret had the same design isses as the "porsche" king tiger, a shot trap under the gun and a lot of very thick armor plate bending( this slows preduction).

On the gun.....I have never read anything about a 100mm/ 100 caliber gun designed for tank use.....The germans were nuts but they were not that nuts to stick agun on a tank that stuck out like 25 feet from the front of the tank but thatsjmo....

have you read through my thread on the e50 build?

Have you seen the Russian T34 with a 100mm gun attached during WWII?

Germans were not the only ones with wild ideas, and the prototype T34 with the 100mm gun actually was constructed and tested. It was evaluated too powerful for the chassis.

The Germans, either out of invention or desperation, where always looking for the next "Wonder Weapon" to win the war. Because of that, it lends itself to modeling a neat looking tank. One thing you will find out about me is that I won't go statist norm, just not me. I like the "Long 88MM KWK L/100mm" look because it is intimidating to say the least. I feel that all old King Tigers would have be used to retro fit the E-75 and by fitting with the Long 88 and new "stereo scopes" range finder. Thats not what I am saying.....for example, the gun in the panther was a 75mm kwk 42/L70......as I understand it the 70is how long thegun tubeis.
the gun in the king tiger was a 88mm kwk 43/ L71.....so the kt had agun tube lenghof71

one of the proposed guns for the july 45 king tiger was the 105mm kwk /L68......that isthe gun tube would be 68 long....

the e75 in the kithas lenght 100.......that gun was never never designed for a tank as far as I have read....just think about driving that thing in a town.....you would be sticking it through wondows on every turn.

Going down town in a tank is a gruesome death just waiting to happen so I stay out of any town If I can help it. Trust me I drove one for 2 years and know that I can't traverse my gun in there. I just like that kit and the look of it so I'm doing the E-75 turret on a King Tiger hull. Hybrid. Im trying to also increase my range but narrow my IR emitter to represent the gun. Plus side- long shot. Down side- have to be on the money or its a miss. I'm guessing that I will get one kill out of 20 shots.

its cool, its your tank. I am sure most will hate my turret on the e50......Have you seen any specs on a super long 88?

RE: E-75

Hmmm, I always thought the T-44 had an 85MM gun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-44 At least that's what I have read.

The town navigation with an SU-100 had to be even worse for that long Naval gun. At least with a turret it can be rotated to avoid buildings. :D

So when are these beasts going to be completed?

t44-85 and a panther

http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/g...and_Pather.jpg

It was just my understanding that the e50 was supose to have the kt 88mm, the e75 was to have the new 105mm and the e100 was to have the ht 126mm....The e50&75 were to usedmost of the kt hull jigs( the front armor was to havedifferent angles) so as to not interupt production....My guess is the e75 would have more or less kept the kt turret but they may have both used the same turret just, different guns and armor thinkness.

most of the light to medium weight poles are rolled composite material and they are hollow. if there are flea markets, swap meets, second hand stores in your area you often can find old rods there. don't need to buy new. Also check with a local sporting goods store to see if they have any damaged rods. a broken tip is not good for fishing but can make a decent gun tube. if there are any custom rod makers in your area they may have old blanks to look at.

You could use telescoping brass or aluminum tubing from K & S they sell longer lengths.

I've used K&S for my custom barrels. Had to extend the 120mm Leo barrel a bit for the Black Eagle build. You should be able to find This at Hardware stores like ACE.

BTW found the t-34/100 reference:

"At the end of the war, attempts were made to improve the tank's armament. In 1945, prototype T-34-100 tanks, with the turret ring widened to 1,700mm and armed with 100 mm LB-1 and D-10T guns, underwent field trials. This project had little purpose in so far as the new T-54 Main Battle Tank with the 100 mm D-10T gun had already been tested and recommended for service."

Just learned something here. Never knew how to read the "kwk / L" measurements. Two questions:

1) what does the "kwk" measure and in what units?

2) what units is the length in (cm, m, calibers, etc)? The bore is in mm (88-mm, 75-mm, etc), but not sure what the gun length is.

TIA

RE: E-75

Hi Philipat
KWK = KampfwagenKanone (Fighting Vehicle Cannon/Gun)
The length is measured in multiples of the calbre, so a 75 mm kwk 42/L70 = 75mm X 70 = 5250mm or 5.250 metres
The 88mm kwk 43 / L71 - 88 mm X 71 = 6248mm or 6.248 metres

Hope this helps

Mal

Thanks...that helps a lot. I guess the KwK number is like a model number.
