Another 6x6

I was bored, so I thought would post a pic of the look I am going for, for my other build. It will be based (loosely) an MTVR military vehicle, using an losi mini crawler, and I have an extra axle to make it a 6x6. I will either use the King hauler cab in the pic or might go with the Knight Hauler cab. My original plan was to use the Bruder granite Mack cab, but it seems my son really likes the dump truck..........soooooo I couldn't bring myself to taking it from him. I will be making a chassis using "L" aluminum for the rails.

I've got a build thread going on a crawler wrecker based on a '42 kenworth. RC4WD chassis and King hauler cab. The build is on hold till I get moved in to my new place.
Looking forward to seeing more on your Deuce & 1/2.

So are you going for the armadillo or the dump truck version?

BTW...duece and half aren't used anymore.  Replaced them with 5-tons and now 7-tons (MTVRs).  Bed keeps getting higher...combat load keeps getting heavier...jumping out of the back of these trucks is getting more hazardous.  Many knee and ankle injuries have come from these new trucks.

I wish Tamiya would release a Military themed truck in their 1/14 scale series. There's just so much to acquire and scratch build right now and really at this point, wouldn't mind if it was a modern truck.

Right now, I am watching all of these builds ... maybe someday I'll take the plunge! :D

Thanks guys for the interest. Philipat, the deuce I am building is a 1943 open cab version. Panther, yes there is a lot of parts and scratch building involved. I still need to order an axle and driveshafts. And right now I have already invested about $600. But so far it's been fun, and frustrating. You think something will work and then it doesn't. This build here I am not going to start until I am finished with the deuce build. Until my 1/35 model that I am working off of gets here, I want to atleast get a rolling chassis done and then once I get the front axle, I will swap it with the original on the deuce build that is.

Cheers
Wade

Cool...lots of "action" photos of the MTVR online. But, I'm confused are you building a MTVR or a 1943 duece-and-a-half? Or, both?

BTW...Marines have the MTVR and refer to it generically as the "7-ton". Never seen the Army using one; so, I don't know if they have it or what they call it.

Both. I have a post on this site titled "deuce and a half" I am using a tamiya king hauler as a base. The MTVR was just sort of hey, I have losi mini crawler sitting on a shelf needing to be modded. The MTVR is on the backburner till I finish the deuce build. I was bored last night so I put up pics of my next build.

Cheers

Our community put on a event for Armed Forces Day that included many military displays. One was of a new 5 ton cargo truck. Asked the soldier if he had any experiences with Deuce an Halfs and he said yes and missed them dearly. It would seem that the newer trucks are a maintenance headache compared to the ole reliabale Deuce an Half. Just some food for though. Just because it's newer, doesn't always mean better. Keep in mind the Deuce an Half was first made back in WW II and continually refined. I loved driving them and wish I could buy one to own myself.

Just an Old Soldier missing some of his younger days LOL.
