RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
ORIGINAL: CCC2012 i am not not to good at the sounds of these engines...therefore i wanted to ask to see if the sound was new or a re hash of the KV tanks..... Thanks for reply Yes, Tamiya used the same sound unit as it was in KV tanks , however some people wondering if any modifications of the sound will be introduced in this IS-2 (for example gun sound) - but this video shows that its also the same ... |
RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
For that price you would think of a custom sound bank... Not that hard or expensive to do...

Great tanks ! - thanks for sharing |
RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
1. Are the Tamiya KV tracks fit perfectly the Tamiya IS-2 sprockets ? 2. Have the Tamiya IS-2 the same transmision unit like Tamiya Tiger ? |
RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
sounds the same.....is this good or bad?

A little birdie has told me that the different vehicles tracks are different in width.

RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
It's neat to look through the manual; thank you for posting it. I'm happy to see that the tracks are different from their KV-1 and KV-2 kits - they have the guide tooth on every other shoe, and the shoes without the guide tooth have the split-link track. I don't know if that is correct for the JS-2, but according to Neil Stoke's book on the KV, it IS correct for the KV-1S, KV-85, and SU-152. All in all, it looks like a really nice kit.

RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
#25 fitting the fuel canisters was frustrating since the cut out is larger than needed and the fitment is very loose.
# 26... anyone building this kit I suggest you attatch the tie down loops before the initial hull coat goes on. I usually spray all the sprus first the clean the contact areas but these are so small it will be easier to spray then on the upper. #33 the turret will need some sanding and filler to smooth the joining lines. #41 the rear deck and hull will need a small bit of compound to close the gap. Possibly shaving some from the screw bosses of the rear plate can be done instead. edit #33 the elevation arm had the "D" shaft facing forward so the after market metal arms will not work since the set screw would be on the round side. I tried to assemble the turret halves then insert the front. The idea was to match the halves better without trying to get 3 parts aligned at once. IT can be done this way but be ready for some tedious work to get the elevation spring on and theelevation rod may fall out so attach that before the spring. ( have fun! ) edit: #41 the rear plate can only be built up to close the gap and the front plate will need some attention also. Almost done! |
RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
I am surprised you don't have one by now?

RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
It's a totally new speaker too and neat that it has a tuned port.
Thanks for the manual "look inside". :D ~ Jeff |

What does a tuned port mean?

RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
A tuned port is the hole next to the speaker with a tube in it. That allows the pressure wave from inside the box to escape giving better sound quality.

RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
sounds great, pun intended

Hi Jeff
I already started got a KV-1 lower hull from Asiatam that I got from Phil a couple years ago plus a HL KV-1 I got in 2009 or 2010 and the Juckenburg KV-85 turret . Thanks Jimmy |
RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
Hey Jimmy!
Man, that looks good! I guess mine will be a bit more economical with a HL upper and lower, DT late wheels, Tamiya electronics and I just bought the barrel from Tamiya this morning. I have the same turret kit and Franks metal muzzle brake which is so sweet. Eventually I will switch over to Tamiya running gear & tracks... unless I find a deal on the metal lower hull and such. Still rearranging the "Mission Room", cleaning and getting things in their place to start the Tank Factory back up once again. This time I will have plenty to build. :D ~ Jeff |
RE: NEW TAMIYA JS-2
Hi Jeff
Were did you get Franks metal muzzle brake and how much I have 2 122mm barrels on order one for this build and another build in the works . I found Franks web site see he wants to sell barrel and brake as a set did not see him offering the muzzle brake by its self . Thanks Jimmy |

I have had that brake for around two years and at the time he wanted a little over $100 for the set. He offered just the brake at $50 plus shipping (which still is too expensive, but the piece is soooo nice) and I was going to look around for someone to turn me a barrel. But time went on then the announcement of the JS-2 kit made me realize I could get the barrel cheaper eventually and I did for $27.
I just did gather up the electronics so the wait was worth it. At least I won't have to buy a whole sprue of parts for a plastic brake, and then sand it down. :D Just hope the elevation unit can handle all that weight... because it IS heavy! ~ Jeff |
