Leopard 2A4 based on HL
moin
now the work on the Leopard starts, because i ddont like realy much the A6 or A5 the HL get killed and transformad into an A4, but bevor we start the main work on the A4 Parts the realy poor hull of the Heng Long need some reinforcments to make it stronger. here comes my first work on it. http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...bzx6mnp51s.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...4lwznxgdp3.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...ea8p05qz3s.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...2zdps4k67o.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...tmqlewarz8.jpg cu christian |
....looks like the kidding around is pretty much over......
|
Looks like it'll be able to take some live .22 rounds... very tough.
|
Hi

"Heng Long Leopard needs some reinforcements to make it stronger......"
I respect very much all kind of modelling, but if the excuse is "I need more stronger".... then must to remember this is a toy and will not fight any war. I have abused of a Heng Long Tiger (all plastic) I have since 3 years now, even my grandson 2 years old has abused and the only problem I had was a the track comes broken. I’m no talking about to play like an adult, but let be abused in all terrain and still working perfectly. So what kind of abused would need a HL Leopard to need such amount of aluminiun?. My 2cts opinion |
how about this to add on

hi
@mcovalsk you say your standart HL Tiger do not have any countable damage after 3 year of use??? i think you must be very lucke because normaly its very untypikal. After a a few years all plastik supensionparts of the tiger wiel brocke soon, exspezialy the lidel pins inside the hull, The roadweelmovement is not tolerabel anymore and the leadingweel just place inside the plastik hull will do everything but leading. You can trust me, 80% of all aktive HL Tiger Driver will now these thinks. About the Leopard, sure these parts are not made for to keep the leopard as a toy, if you put diveent electronick inside with better speakers, if you put metal tracks on it, if you want to use the metalroadweels, and alot of diveret metal stuff, it will be no problem for a tank like the Leopard to reach 8 or more Kilogramms, using than a more powerfull Drive the standart plastik setup is not able to hold the forces that beet the hull. im using 3mm Aluminium plates at the moment, because it makes the construntion of this inlay more easy to me as if im using smaller one. Becuase of the tricky iner struktur of the leopard. But after the first feeling test im not unhappy with that. the 3mm are ok for a construktion of this dimesion. by the way here is an example of strongness what realy earns the discription of strongness.... ;-) http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...b4o5y13ksd.jpg To bring it to the final point, you are right, this inlay is not a must for everyone exspezialy if the Leopard keeps it basic setup But if it goes more Havy it is a helpfull option for modelers who want more with its leopard.... sure thay can buy a Tamyia but the Tamyia will not strong as the HL Leopard with this upgrade ;-). cu christian |

hi
jes you haven an Tamiya leopard the suspension mounting is very divenet to the HL system and very well. The main reason because i have doen it here at the HL Chasi was to get fix points for the Suspension and a fix platform for the gearbox. In standart HL setup you are able to move the sproket up and down nearly 5 mm with only your fingers, and thats was for me the final point to start working on that improfment. cu |

thank you :-). here comes the turret again, it still need some basik modifikations but the turret body is ready now :-) http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...9x24qpfe8k.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...owjfe6qrd7.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...f1qhk0eu2v.jpg http://img5.fotos-hochladen.net/uplo...3oqsfri4kg.jpg cu christian |
Looks great! I like the strength and weight of metal hulls. Makes the tank run better in the lawn. :)
What wheels and tracks are you using? |
Can you use this turret on a Tamiya Leopard 2a6? I really want a 2a4 turret on my Tamiya! Thanks.
|
hi
Thank you :-) I m using mato toya roadweels and Tracks at the moment. The weeels are running well but about the tracks i m a bit nervos, its fits correkt at the sproket but the track it self isn t realy flexibel. But this i need to test if the tank is running. A adabtion to tamiya should be no big problem, but sadly i do not have a tamiya so i cant mesure it out at the moment :-(. cu chritsan |
you might try the Impact tracks. Someone already tried those on the HL and they worked well. Impact's tracks are much more flexible. I don't remember if they used the metal road wheels or not, though.
|
Is that turret available for sale?
|
Yes Sir!
I Love the Look of That Turret... Regards, -gus |
Here Here....incredible modeling from Chris(as usual) but he tends to go a bit overboard on some of his builds, in this particular case I find its even a bit more over the top then usual... 95% of tankers would never go to this level...just easier/cheaper to buy new parts or hell even a new tank for that matter then go through all this..

The question is whether the strength is necessary. Now I don't know much about the type of plastic or construction of the Heng Long Leopard, but I have the AFV chassis inner brace on my Tamiya Leopard, which is similar to what you have made for the Heng Long hull, but my Leopard is no more and no less reliable than the several other Leopards in my club running without the inner brace kit. All it does for my tank is increase its weight and possibly affect its acceleration performance and run time.
|
hi
thx Dirtybird, thats why the most of my kits are in the hands of my custumers how thay want it, Im not creating Tmiya kits, thats kits wich include thinks the custummer want ;-) and thanks augustus, i do my best, this is my favorit turret on the leopard 2 too :-). it will be aivable soon, in about 3-4 weeks its should be in the stage to get orderable. need to handel some problems and fix some failures and have to viem alot of pictures at the moment. Its to long agao as i put my foots on a real a4. cu christian |
I know the RC tank and Nerf hobby are few and far between, but with modding Nerf blasters any reinforcement is good reinforcement. Even when it's not needed. I think it sort of applies here. You never know when the reinforcements might come in handy.
|
hi
whats nerf hobby? sorry i m not native english speaker ;-) To my point of view the HL Leopard do have one of the weekest Heng Long hulls, and i knew all the lidel thinks wich comes to the Hulls wenn thay becomes older. So I want to have somthing in side my Leopard what will save me for all the lidel damages. Sure the most are not bateling and the most don t drive realy much so yes this enforcment is maybe not needed. But if you made your tank haviere with alle metal tracks , roadweels, spezial sound , spezial electronick (you can put in alot in a leopard) you will easyly reach 7-9kg and that is a whight the HL hull is not made for, expezily if you want to drive like a real Leopard does. cu christian |

This is what I mean. This blaster in particular needs reinforcement if you are going for a bigger spring. This is my personal war blaster and I have spent close to $250 AUD. So really, in both hobbies, reinforcing the "toy" may lead to longer life.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2010483 I like how you can just see my Panzer IV and an old Sherman turret in the background. So, technically, it's RC tank related. :D |
Hi
@panther If i only want a fix gear box, yes. But a well working roadweel system need fix schwingarms, fix leading weels and a fix sprocket. If the thinks are not fix it will couse problems relativ soon. cu christian |
Christian, will you be making this kit available in a conversion form to allow Tamiya Leopard 2A6 owners to convert their tanks to a 2A4? Offhand I think it entails the turret, side skirts and changing the driver's hatch. If you could configure it such that the DMD T-07 remains in the turret that would be great - but it means we got to figure out how to relocate the batteries to the lower hull with the speakers. As stock, the Tamiya Leopard's turret is stuffed to the brim with electronics, wires, and other stuff.
|
hi
I wish i could do that, but at the moment i do not have a Tamiya Leopard here, so i can t do the needed mesurments to do the needed changes. But I think you don t need to change much, its like an emty hull wich you can modivy to your own wishes easy. cu christian |
