HL Pershing - 2014 makeover?
 

I've seen this mentioned by a couple of retailers and I'm not quite sure what to make of it.... has HL cleaned up / re-released the Pershing?

If anyone can chime in I'd love to know :)

Minor improvings, like wheels you can remove like the T34, boxes and other parts unglued, and other details we were asking for.

The wiring that is under the upper hull is now like other tanks, 8-pin and 3-pin.
The inner mantle design and the removal of the 2 screws that supported the mantle has been replaced by moulded dowels.
Also, my 2 Pershing are a different O.D. green, the newest has a more brown tone in the green.

Not sure if this applies to the TankArmy product, but I got an HL M26 late last year, have just started working on it, but still haven't open it up yet, but what I've noticed is that the plastic tracks are hollow - on the inside - and it now has single pin tracks (2nd pin is just a moulding). Otherwise , externally its the same as my old HL M26.

Thanks for the input guys, that actually makes a lot of sense. Further digging on TankArmy actually lists the new Pershing & Bulldog wheels and spells out the removable hubs. I remember talking about the pain in the butt Pershing wheels were to remove with club members, it's nice that they work on things like that.

I'm in the process of putting one together so I'll make an effort to check out the internals when / if I get one and try to get that on here. It's a cool tank that seems to not get it's share :)

Nice to see improvements like the wheels being made. But, the suspension is still horribly wrong. That wouldn't have been too hard to fix. Just put the spring in the swing arms like they German tanks. :confused:

Too bad about Heng Long going backwards on the tracks as well. The old two pin plastic tracks were pretty robust, but it appears as if the new hollow tracks and single pin are the "New" HL standard. Kudo's for them changing how the wheels attach though. That is definitely a good thing, as removal of the old ones would almost certainly lead to a broken hub.

You can place small hard springs inside the shocks, I did it and works fine and smooth.

The biggest improvement H.L. could do to the Pershing would be to sell it as a " Kit" at a lower price,,,We have to take it apart and rebuilt it anyway...

I'd be interested in the specs that you used for the springs (length, gauge, etc) and pics of them dissembled because that would be a nice touch for realism. But, overall, there shouldn't be shocks on the 3d and 4th road wheels. That's where the torsion spring should be in the swing arm the same way it is for the German tanks that HL makes.

Yep, at the very least all the bits that THEY glue (fused��) to the upper hull. ...sorry too those that would be laid-off or would move over to Foxxcom factory.

My Pershing arrived after being in the mail for one day. Intnova is a good eBay retailer for us in Canada and especially Ontario.

So it seems I have a mix of new version Pershing parts and originals. The tracks, electronics and the MANY parts sprues I got are all new. Seems I have the old solid-hub wheels, lame. They included a bunch of the new plastic removable hubs and I have nowhere to put them.

Can anyone tell me whether the turret internals are the newer or order types? Can't really tell without much to compare it too.

Looks to be the newer as there aren't two screws holding the mantel through the lower turret shell, yours uses the moulded dowels ...but now I'm having second thought's about what the 2014 really covered in the revision. Minimal I'd think 2.4 system. These will be interesting 100's of years from now when someone is trying to restore one to original or get one appraised ...I could see the expert on the "Antique Road Show" try explaining the history and just hit it with a hammer and say "whoops, it's worth nothing".

I think your pershing is the old version because I saw a 2p cable on the bb unit. This does not exist on the new version. The new version only has a 8p cable connecting the turret/upper hull with RX-18. The traditional 2p cable for bb unit is removed. The new version's road wheels should not have caps on them when you take it out of box and you need to put on the caps by yourself. So I think you received a old version tank but with some small parts for the new version. I have both the old and new version pershing tanks. The new version is easier to work with.

Haha, yes this is interesting to say the least Haw-Haw :P I think everyone is correct here.. I have a mix of old and new parts for this tank. I'm glad I have what seems to be the new turret, as mine does not what is pictured in your photo at all, and that seems to be one of the major weaknesses.

A little miffed that I didn't get new roadwheels but it won't matter, ordered a set of the new metal wheels w/ bearings from TankArmy and they hopefully will be nice.

I'll put together a build thread eventually :)
