Aberdeen Tiger
 

Does anyone know where the Aberdeen Tiger 712 is presently located? The last I heard a year ago or more
it was in England being prepared to be shipped to the US. It was to go back to Aberdeen PG to be restored
with the help of Mr Wheatfield. Since he is no longer with us, and Aberdeen's armor vehicles now scattered
at various posts, where and what happened to Tiger 712 ? Anyone have the latest information?

Did you mean Jacques Littlefield, because Kevin Wheatcroft from the UK is still around as far as I know.

The Tiger is currently at Ft. Benning. The army is moving all of there museum tank collection to Benning for restoration and for a new indoor museum. Most of the tanks from the patton museum and APG are there in storage in hangers or are being restored at the moment. A buddy of mine who lives near there always stops by to take pics for me and the tiger is disassembled in the one hanger. The T28 is also there and it too has it's side skirts off.

We'd love to see it, but he has his permissions set for friends-only. If its not too much trouble, you could post the photo URLs here, that would be great.

The public will not see APG tanks anymore or anywhere.

Imagine the last scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
The artifact gets wheeled into a huge warehouse........never to be seen again. What a shame!

The tanks will be back on public display once the new building is completed, until then they are in storage. However from what I was told they are not too difficult to get access to if you know where they are. The last time my buddy was there there was a photographer from an unnamed model company who was taking detail pics and measurements of on of the M60s

At least they're under cover for now and some of them may be on display eventually. Maybe there is hope.

They really do look pretty glum don't they? For all the money we waste on certain 'programs' you'd think these sorts of irreplaceable
machines could have either found their way to proper funding or would have been adopted by a wealthy benefactor. What about
all the Hollyweird types who've profited from movies that were set in the times these things roamed about - where is their civic mindedness?

Armor just doesn't hold the public's attention like aircraft, never has and never will.

Most of the "Hollywood types" are died in the wool liberals who couldn't give a ***** about US military history. With the exception of Tom Hanks, Arnold Scharzenegger and David Speilberg I fear their are few patriots there.

Thanks Texchap, after going to the link, you provided, I think there is hope that we may be able to see these tanks publicly again.

Fat chance, unlike the other museums around the world the US army's idea of "restoration" is to drain the fluids, weld up the hatches, and in most cases paint the tanks horribly wrong. >:^(

You mean the pink Panthers at Aberdeen aren't accurate? I've been painting 1/35 kits wrong all these years. ;)

@armorguy, maybe they are going to try and do better going forward? Snagged these off the NACM site of their restoration work on the APG Panther G. We can only hope!!!:confused:
