Hi everyone,

Well The day that I left for Danville I was able to get to the post office and pick up my latest project. The Russian Heavy Tank JS-2. so i figured why not lets do a build thread on this. Now this won't be me putting every screw into every piece This will be more like. project updates. If you would like to see the put every screw into every position than I would recommend that you look into rctanks24/7 He has a complete build thread like that. Plus he is a lot better at the detail and weathering than I am. Anyway this is more of a teaser unboxing. The next video will be taking it all out of the box. Enjoy

Among the TAMIYA (not Tamaya:o ), my wish list is like this : JS-2 my ultimate tank and the last one that I will ever want. But, I am saving right now to get this year a Panther or Pershing for IR purposes only.

I shall be religiously following this thread and be your disciple for the forthcoming good times to come.

Decided to not wade in, and take the high dive? Nice. I'll be following this one with great interest!

I'm raised Army so there are really only two speeds that i know stop and Full Bore open all cylinders!!! Even the little time that i had the Bulldog (Waiting on more parts) and the Sherman I knew that this is the next step. I still have plans for the Sherman and pretty much after Danville I decided that IR is for me and thats what I want my tanks to be. And afte using a Tamiya and my love of building things anyway i knew that a Tamiya kit was the way to go. And that was even before Danville. I'm going to do the "actual" opening of the box tonight. I should have the video up sometime tonight.

OK guys the next step in the JS-2 build the ACTUAL unboxing ;)!!! Now 1. This is kinda long like 20 min long sorry about that. 2. My camera died during this so I had to switch to my phone for the last four minutes sorry about that also.

I'll keep the build videos shorter since i won't be filming myself actually putting it together more of just updates where I am in the build.

Not a bad TX that comes with it. Self centering sticks all around is a plus, plus very easy to solder in a fire button down the road.

Lucky...I thought that the radio/receiver is exclusively for Japanese market only.

If you could, please include in your forthcoming videos the various tools that you would be using. It would be nice to know the tools of the trade use to build a Tamiya kit.

No prob Tonight once i get off of work I plan to get the suspension in or at least started. The kit actually comes with some of the tools you'll need already but I throw in all the tools that i will use because some of the tools that come with it i won't use since I have a better version of. But no prob.

As far as the tx/rx combo they are only for the Japan market. My box actually says only for use in Japan in like 4 spaces. ;) Order from banzai Hobby and when your checking out the tank see if it says anything about a radio included. Some of them said it some didn't the JS-2 did say it.

It's the Futaba Attack with the Tamiya logo. I guess the last 15 years of adding them in finally paid off in branding. 2.4 with analog trims, can't beat it.

It's a tough Tx too, my son smashed it, knocking a gimbal loose, but once I got it back in position, it was fine.

Strong dollar makes Banzai even more attractive right now, but I've reached my quota for a while.

Yea, knew it was the Attack. I got one of those kits a couple years back with a JagdPanther, thinking from Hobbylink japan. Nice it's been updated to 2.4 and all self centering though as the old AM attack was not. Looking forward to your progress Bill.

FYI clarification, not true:

The kit itself is called a Japanese Market kit, but the Tamiya JS-2 Japan market kit 2.4 radio (in a black case and branded Tamiya) with a left stick self centering spring installed, is the same radio as the silver case Futaba 2.4 sold in the USA and the USA radio does not have the self centering left stick installed.

That is the radio transmitter difference. Get the Futaba 2.4 left stick self center parts here in the USA:

Also, the kit includes a battery charger that does not work in the USA unless you have a voltage converter and that is the only item NOT for USA use found in the kit.

I know, I built a first JS-2 kit from the AAF Museum and a year later bought a Japan Market JS-2 Kit from Banzai Hobbies.

I didn't know that you could buy a Tamiya kit with the radio in the states. All the kits that I have found in the states say that you still need the radio. I was not intending to imply that the kit is somehow illegal or anything like that. But the box DOES clearly state "For use in Japan only". I would assume that they are talking about the charger. I also had no intent on implying that the radio was somehow special or not for use in the US.

I did not write or I do think I wrote you could buy a Tamiya Japan Market Kit with the radio in the states. LOL.

I wrote or meant to write, I had bought a first kit from the AAF Museum sans radio and used the silver case Futaba 2.4 system which I purchased at Tower Hobbies in the USA.

A year later I bought a second JS-2 kit, but from Banzai Hobbies in Japan, which included a Tamiya Branded rc 2.4 radio system.

The point is:

The Japan Tamiya 2.4 black case transmitter is mostly the same transmitter, as the USA silver case Futaba 2.4 transmitter.

The differences:

The silver case Futaba transmitter does NOT have a self centering left stick and the Tamiya-Futaba black transmitter DOES, other wise they are the same transmitter.

The Tamiya Japan branded 2.4 receiver is identical to the USA Futaba 2.4 reciever.

John, you got it all wrong.
I'm not building an IS-2, nor did I comment on the sold/built only for Japan. Think you may have just read too fast. I just commented on the TX looking better than the old AM attacks that use to come with
the TX/kit combo.

This was pretty cool. Lately I've been thinking that I got a bit out of hand in another thread, but now I see that I'm a lot closer to normal than I thought I was. The fact that we have such a great forum where we can disagree and still all stay friends never ceases to amaze me. You guys are the best. :)

Hey Bret I'm pretty sure he was talking to me about the JS-2 build. Anyway I think this is all in past. we all agree the black transmitter can be used in the US, It is similar to the silver transmitter that is sold in the US minus the self centering left stick. and text vs voice is always hard to understand unless you know how that person actually speaks. Bottom line we ALL had a case of you can me and I can hear you but we can't hear each other.

Onto the next wierd or misinterpreted thing;)

This is all so GREAT and has me really ramped up to start one of my own. :D I haven't looked inside a Tamiya kit in such a long time :rolleyes: (and have several to build too) so keep up the nice work and videos Bill! :cool:
