fynsdad 08-29-2016 03:49 AM

Don't know yet Martin...haven't been able to make the last few..

RichJohnson 08-29-2016 07:17 AM

Very cool man!

what is the make of the 75mm mount, it looks like metal?

fynsdad 08-29-2016 07:23 AM

Yes the mount's metal..it's a Mato one..

Where did you get the M4A4 upper hull? Is it a scratch build or maybe a conversion job? I am planning on doing a flail on the Mato cast hull just to see if my plan will make a working, but I would prefer to do an accurate model on the correct hull.

I got one of the DGS firefly kits and used the turret on a hybrid build, so I had the upper hull and transmission cover..so stretched a HL lower and modified a HL turret

Yesterday, I looked at this ebay listing to see what was included in the kit. Much to my surprise I got an email from ebay this morning that informed me there was an item on their website that might interest me!!!!! I didn't order anything --- I just looked at it without clicking on anything. Sheeesh! There is no privacy left in the world! Thank goodness I don't look at porno websites (anymore).

I am going to use chain like yours but haven't decided what would work for the weights on the ends. At the risk of being called a copy cat, what have you used on yours? I have zoomed in on your photo, but I can't recognize what you have there.

I think they are Fyn's legos...

Cromwell user 09-02-2016 02:46 PM

Yeah i was going to say aren't those lego chains? I guess they would work perfectly considering the stud on the end would double as a weight! Nice looking tank though!

Rex Ross 09-02-2016 03:33 PM

Thanks to all of you guys for the chain source info. I just ordered enough of it for my flail. My info says there were 43 chain lengths ---- Yikes! That sounds like a lot chains that could get tangled up. Once again the members of this forum have helped me out a bunch.
rex :o

fynsdad 09-02-2016 08:07 PM

Yep the guys are correct, they're Lego chains..hopefully they'll work ok when spinning..I thought I'd try and keep the weight down by using plastic and also the links are molded as solid pieces so may be stronger than say brass ones..

Damned that's a FAST spinning flail.... Sure looks faster than "factory".
http://panzerserra.blogspot.ca/2011/...nnie-mine.html

The Crab's rotor carried 43 flails and was driven at 142 rpm by a driveshaft running down the right hand side of the tank.

Sooo retro compared to later versions of flail-style mine clearers...

Of course it is... In my head... where my flail is still chewing up brain matter at alarming speeds. :)

I was just wondering just how fast those flails are spinning on your Crab. Likely a good thing they are light lego chains (definitely see why you thought one piece links were better).
