Help with M4A3E8 Conversion

Hello All!

I am currently working on building an M4A3E8 Fury, and I need some help!

I have purchased a Nick Aguilar conversion kit for the Tamiya Sherman, but I am having an insane amount of difficulty installing the turret, as I cannot seem to get the cross bar with the Elevation mechanism into the conversion kit turret. Furthermore, I am having difficulty making sure the cross bar is low enough that the turret ring is not only centered, but in contact with the rotation gear. can anybody who has done this before help provide me with information on how this can be done? I am relatively new to this custom build situation.

Put some washers between the cross bar and the ring gear to lower it into the hull a little more (you'll probably need some slightly longer M3 screws).

Cross bar into turret is fiddly, but not super hard. You need to have the mantlet removed tho - this gives you more wiggle room.

I built this kit from nick a couole years ago. I made a new rotation ring stay bracket that leaves the center open for the recoil unit to depress inside for elevation.
review my build here,

Excellent images and advice. I agree with EPT... a little shimming and wiggling around is needed.

You almost need a watch makers touch as everything is a little tight. I believe I popped my elevation arm on with a pair of long-nosed needle pliers too.

thanks for the pictures! I'll use them as reference.

I can tell you have the Israeli jerry can holders on the side. Where did you get this shumo t23 turret? Ive heard of it but never seen it for sale anywhere. It has all the late war details on it that the Nick Aguilar T23 does not. Nicks turret is great but is an early T23, pre Oct 1944 when it transitioned to the oval hatch.

Got it from Germany, very nicely detailed.

I do believe they will be making some more this year.

Here's a few images of the resin turret floor you asked for.

For some reason it will not let me send them in a PM.

Working on my M4A3E8 as well, doing the rear hull with the single door and lower exhaust. Might be mute as the exhaust deflector will probably hide the work.

The door and exhaust are still quite visible.

I am not a Sherman expert, but i can google and look at sources and with the deflector in place on an actual M4A3E8 from
Sherman back doors and exhaust systems
the doors and exhaust are not very visible, just saying.

Even in this pic, you can just see the very bottom of the exhaust and the door.
