Get a multimeter!!!!!!
I just opened up the HL S/S pershing, and copied all the wiring(after scrapping the original T34 electronics)
Nothing is labeled on HL boards[&o]
It is not easy to do,take notes,pics etc. of all wiring BEFORE you tear apart(lots of notes).
If you do not know what you are doing.......put it aside and find your answer BEFORE continuing.
Be careful, and just ask for help as you need it(on the forum or PM any of us who are willing to help you)
Also, not a whole lot of room for smoke unit + its messy,so I skipped that part.

Cheers For Your Support!!! The First Thing I Really Want To Do Is Convert The 8 AA Battery Compartment, In To The HL Stick Type And Corrisponding Plug. Is This Still Possible To Do With The Trumpeter Electronics???

You'll need a dremel tool to grind away the AA battery compartment and a sheet of plastic to cover up the the area once occupied by the AA battery compartment. Then, you'll have to attach a female Tamiya plug to the stock receiver. Attach your 7.2 volt stick battery (make sure it's charged:)) and test to make sure your tank runs properly. I used the Hen Long smoke/sound board on mine(copied wiring from HL Pershing).I think the original WSN board is comparable to a non smoke /sound HL board(not much slow speed control).
It is a "project" for sure!

My brother in law and I did some battling yesterday evening around 7pm. I was using the Sheman and he was commandeering the t34. Man! He was registering hits from 15 yards away while my Sherman seemed to miss the mark from close range. I'm gonna do some tests this weekend and try to get to the bottom of this. Perhaps the lower profile of the t34 has something to do with this. Perhaps it's the difference in the location of the flash unit relative to the LED. Hmmm . . .

Hi Sownare, Jstrat121. I Received The Tank Yesterday And I Am Pleased With It...
However I Have A Few Problems With It. When I Drive The Tank Over Ten Feet Away
The Tank Judders For A Couple Of Feet And Then It Stops Altogether? I Then Have To Walk
Over To It Before It Starts To Move Off Again, Did Both Of You Have This Problem?
Also Could Either Of You Please Post Some Pictures Of The Modfiyed Battery Compartment
Including Where/How The Female Tamiya Plug Is Fitted...
As I Reckon Keep Buying 8 Batteries For The Tank Will Eventualy Become Boring[&o]
Plus Any Other Mods Will Be Appeciated As Well!

My t34 is running real good right now,I really hate to take it apart if its not broke, as there are a lot of wires running around inside.
I forgot to take pics during the upgrade(took all night + a 12 pack of Bud-light[&:])
This is what I can give you for now.....I may feel froggy and take her apart over this weekend for ya....lets see how it goes;)

I used hot melt glue to secure both HL boards to the inside of the hull,just kind of "tack welded" them down.
The battery just lays inside werever it will fit(sometimes I just leave in tank while recharging).
All wires are wiretied and "spot" hot melted down to hull.
The only feature I lost was the main gun flash....I fried the LED and was just to tired and drunk[&:] to replace it....maybe one day I will

Try Microsoft Paint, it's usually up there in start/programs/accessories. Very simple and easy to use.

How do you have your firing unit mounted in/on your tank......in the barrel? I drilled out the hole on the right side of the mantle and fitted my LED in there with a small length of (green-painted) brass tubing. Now, I can push the bulb to the end of the tube and hit everything in front of me at one time (as long as the barrel is not blocking the tank to my left) or I can pull it in a bit for more of a concentrated line of fire (multiple tank combat). [sm=thumbup.gif] It works for me. :D

I bet the LED for the T34 is more exposed than that of the Sherman.

Sounds like a poor signal between the tank and the transmitter. If your batteries are 100%, maybe your antenne wire is damaged or unplugged. [:o]

I feel pretty bummered about how you received a defective t34, especially since it was a bday gift to yourself. . . It sure is disappointing when anything doesn't work as advertised or comes broken or damaged. I know . . . I recently puchased a pricey rc chopper only to have it banged up during transit. we're still here for you. We hope this first taste of tanking won't turn you away from the hobby. Let us know what happens next and what information you need that we may able to provide.

My Sherman wasn't accurately registering hits as well as my t34. The photo on the right ((TBU LED on top of gun barrel) shows an arrangement that didn't work well. The photo on the left (TBU LED on the bottom of the cannon) shows my current installation. A very simple modification that allows my Sherman to work as well as my t34, accurately registering hits from past 20 yards. But, in the most recent battle, my t34 suffered some injury. Stay tuned!

A thought on your shooting problem - the clip is meant to attach to the Sherman 105 barrel, and its an even diameter ay that point, right?

Perhaps there is a slight taper to your longer one, and its causing the emitter to be partially blocked by the muzzle brake - the stock barrel had no brake, right? You might try putting a shim on the front edge of the clip, like a scrap of vinyl tape, to counter-act the angle of the barrel.

Other option is moving the emitter into the mantlet, but thats not an easy task after the kit has been assembled.

That's pretty much it . . . when the LED was on top of the barrel and either the cannon was slightly elevated or the tank was sitting on a slight incline in terrain, the barrel was indeed partially blocking the infrared beam from the LED. Putting the LED on the bottom of the barrel eliminates the cannon from getting in the way . . .

It felt great, in a guilty sort of way, as driver of the Sherman, perpetually scoring hits and knocking out the t34! It was, indeed, too good to be true. Since the t34 wasn't registering hits from point blank range, when it was hitting my Sherman from 20 yards out yesterday, sometheing had to be wrong. Popping out the hull and inspecting the turret revealed the problem.

The problem is the stock WSN canon recoil mechanism. Unlike the tamiya unit, the wsn unit uses a constant rotating arm to pull back the cannon. The rotating arm caught some loose wire of the LED unit and chewed it up. Man! This little recoil unit packs some powerful torque. It chewed up the wire so tight that I had to cut the bound wires and pull them out with pliers.

I'm debating installing the LED inside the hull like the Tiger one and not using the external mount. What do you guys think about this? How will affect the performance of the LED? Thank all!

I'd love to some pics of your set up. Could you please clarify what you mean by how you're able to hit a target in front of you by pushing the LED into the brass barrel? Thank you and hope all is well in the great state of Texas!

Since I'm at work I can't get any pictures, but it is easy enough to describe.

I bought a section of brass tubing at my LHS that was large enough for the emitter, cut about 1/2 inch off of the end and painted that section the same color as my tank. After I drilled out the hole in the mantle so the tube would fit, it stuck it in the hole and use CA to keep it there.

After some discussion on this forum about the effects of too much of the emitter sticking out and how I could accidentally shoot my compadres, I slipped the LED bulb in there and started testing. I found that if I pushed the bulb through the mantle and out past the end of the tube, the LED would send a very wide signal (like a shotgun blast) and nail any receiver in front of it (other than a tank to the left of the barrel, of course). However, that included friendly tanks, too. [:o]

If I pulled the bulb backward into the tube so that it could not be seen very well, the signal seemed to be much more concentrated and only shot straight out the end of the brass tube (like a sniper rifle).

What I need to do now is install a servo and rod system that will allow me to change the position of the bulb inside the tube on the fly. Then, I can change the span of my shots in a battle and select what I need for each opportunity that arises. :D

Hi there Icrcreamslick! What a clever find about the TBU system! Thanks for sharing it with us. I'm sure it'll come in very handy when your Sherman is cornered by a couple of Tigers. I think I'll go with an internally mounted LED. I'll miss having the LED on the barrel because mounting the LED internally eliminates the variable of cannon elevation. With the LED on the barrel, and on hilly terrain, its great to control the angle of the barrel to make a hit. It just makes for a more realistic gaming situation. Thanks again!

Hi Everyone, I Am Now Sending Back The T-34/85 With Great Pleasure As It Had Really Pissed Me Off[:@]. Now Don't Get Me Wrong I Do Like The T-34/85 With All Of Those High Detail Parts!:D But Those Controls Are A Nightmare To Remember...
So Instead I'm Now Getting A HL Panther To Cheer Me Up. But I Don't Want To Change Peoples Minds, Who Wants To Buy These, I Am Pretty Sure This Is Just A One Off.
