Here is the progress on my first tank...it is coming along . I'm waiting for the bearing, idler, and radio.

Haven't weathered it yet...tank commander needs a little work still...oh and a picture of one of the building in my European town...

First wash applied...still waiting for parts.

I think the tank commander is done...minus armor patch. I can't get the hang of painting people...but I think he came out o.k.

The tank is 2 washes of acrylic.

Out here.

I think you did a great job on the commander. He looks devious now, good job on the eyes. ;)

What paint (brand, color) did you use for the hull and turret, and for the wash?

Thanks guys for the compliments.

The tank base color is Camo from Walmart (hardware section). The wash was Burnt Umber Americana Acrylic, also from Walmart (craft section).

Just worked on the suspension...made me tired...lol. My idlers didn't come in yet so I have a little bit more "painting time".

Thanks again,

Dennis

:D He does seem to have an evil, reptilian glare......must have seen some terrible things during the war, that changed him. His psychotic break has made him a hard, pitiless man.

:D:D:D... a hard pitiless man... That's hilarious! Good stuff there.

Maybe he has post traumatic stress disorder...

Making some camo netting. The netting is cheesecloth (walmart...$2.00 for a whole bunch), the straps are masking tape cut really thin. I wrapped them and tossed them in a wash of dark green acrylic paint.

Here is a picture as they dry. I will probably add a little brown to them.

What do you think?

Here are some updated photos...mostly extra gear and decals applied. Still waiting for my idlers and battery. The camo roll on the rear caught fire in the microwave when I was drying it...nice special effect. THe large camo net is just draped across until I figure out what I want to do with it.

Out here.

can you paint my commanders?

dacostasr 05-01-2006 06:27 AM

RE: Pershing Progress....so far

Sure Tom....but like the commercials say "results may not be the same", "professional drivers on this course", "weight loss is not typical"...lol

Thanks,

Dennis

Getting closer....idlers still not here. UPS sent my batteries to the wrong "hub"...delayed. So here is a picture of where I am. I must still be a kid, when I started it up with an old battery I got the biggest smile...SOOO COOL.

I hope I can find some (local) Tigers to chase down!

Out Here.

Looking good! [sm=thumbup.gif]

One thing that I have found with the Tamiya Pershing is that if you are not VERY careful when you grab it, the plastic headlight covers break. [:o] I have re-glued and replaced mine until I am at my wits' end! [:@] Every time I take it for a spin, I break one or the other of those stupid little things! I hate 'em!!!

I tried to fabricate a set, but I was not able to bent the flat metal into the correct, curved shape. I contacted both Backyard Armor and Tankzone to find out if anyone is working on metal replacement parts, like the ones they have for the Sherman, but apparently they are not. I may just order another set of the Sherman headlight covers and see if I can convert/modify them to suit my Pershing.

WOOHOO! Idlers came in today. I still need to do some touch up detailing but I couldn't resist hooking everything up and experiencing my first armor run...if I would have done this years ago I would have quit flying!

Here are some pics

Thanks for all the advice...

Dennis

If you look closely at the map...you can see it is the "danville' layout...scouting mission

Wow... [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] Thanks for posting the additional pics.

One minor thing bothers me a bit, and I've seen it a lot. The gear stowed on the horizontal surfaces of the hull. How would it be secured in the time period depicted? I'm thinking rope, chains or some kind of strapping. All those K-ration crates and ammo cans are all gonna rattle off based on engine vibrations and terrain features. Do the ammo cans on the sides of the hull fit into some kind of slot or holder?

I'm rather fond of the Enemy at the Gates "barrel wrap".

Thanks guys...

Harq you're right about stowing gear, I thought the same thing; my rope was soaking in yellowish-brown paint...I put in the paint lastnight. As soon as it looks the right color I will take it out and strap the gear down.

more pics later
