I think you guy's will love the Jentz/Doyle book very good for modeling. They also have one for the Tiger I and Jentz did one on Combat tactics for the Tiger I & II some nice pics of damage done to Tigers and they lived but other wise just okay. Glad to help out, but with all those awesome pics by Stern and others of their KT's I don't think you guys need much help. Now if I could just finish mine!!!

Thanks again Brain ! This book is very good [sm=thumbup.gif]- made me recognize that I forgot the "round welds" ... - also very interesting towards the welds in front of the driver mirror (compare page 119 in Jentz/Doyle).

Again Axel's rear hatch: I changed the welds, because I found no prove for that type Axel uses.
Then I modelded the surface texture and brushed it with face primer (Tamiya).

The wire keeps the nut from backing off from the bolt. Much like a cotter pin.

Here's how I did mine.

RE: King Tiger

In motorcycle racing we had to do that with key bolts ( anything holding back fluid like oil drain bolt and other ones like brake caliper bolts ), if the bolt starts to back out the wire is wound to tighten up in that direction. If the KT uses the clockwise tighten method then your wire is backwards Nava.

navspook 05-31-2007 05:17 PM

RE: King Tiger

Armchair: I didn't think it mattered. The wire goes through the nut and bolt and if the nut wants to loosen, the wire (cable) should prevent that, regardless of whether it was threaded from the right or from the left.

Stern: Does this look right or should I reverse the wire?

Thanks for your comments.

Nav, I was an Aircraft Mechanic for a number of years, And I can say that in that field it does matter. However I think that in Modeling as long as you capture the effect, Who cares? That is of course unless you do. Personaly if someone is bent over hacking your model, Give them a swift kick[:D
Just my opinion.

Your KT is still looking great!

Hallo Navspook,

Your King is looking great !!! I just did my wire like the King in Munster Museum has his one (picture above)... I do not know if there was a special order to do the wire like the King in Munster has - if you want to change it - it is pretty easy - just start from the left and pull the wire throug all screws, then go back and put it on this way around itself, when you put the wire around a screw take care that it "walks" on the "out-side" and not in. I opened an electric cable and used one wire from the inside ...

Trev, Stern:

I think you've just named my next project in detailing.

Stern, it looks like I need to do what you did -- make the wire thinner in dia. maybe by using smaller gauage multi-strand wire and removing some of it.

Hey, guys, thanks for your help. I'll post pics once I've had a chance to do the mods.

Trev: How's your KT coming along?

Cheers....

RE: King Tiger

Nav. Right at the moment the KT is kinda just sitting there. I should be getting the new suspension springs soon. I have an old bull barrell for a .223 im looking into turning that down for the KT, and building a recoil mechanism. Right now i am also fighting a very serious Battle!!! Operation Yard Work (I think im winning LOL).

RE: King Tiger

Trev: Cool. I considered taking an old .22 semi rifle and modifying for blanks. Maybe try to emulate the German 88 with recoil. I don't have metal tooling/machines so I gave up on the idea.

What would be the closest caliber for a 1/8 scale 88mm canon? (I thought .22 would be pretty close).

Cheers...

Nav
Im not sure what the Caliber would be in Scale, I also thought about the Blank Idea but there are a whole bunch of Legal problems there.
I got the Springs today from Mike so I am working on the suspension set up to see if this will work. I will keep you posted on the results.

Here we are: The Gun Smoke !
Thanks a lot for the help to the Netherlands to Arthur !

RE: King Tiger

[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FZAktu88qk]At first - the new Video[/link]

How to do:

1) Making the smoke room

First built the smoke room - put inside the smoke maker (f.e. Graupner smoke maker) and a fan (2,5*2,5 it will be put into the turret ! )
Must not look nice - but take care that no smoke can "walk outside".

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/1141/img5278iw6.jpg

One side the smoke line:

http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4846/92483135dr2.jpg

Other side the fan and the little hole to put liquid in:

http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/7897/30008997dn6.jpg

Then the "second room" is put in front of the "fan-side". At the open side I have put a bit of a sponge to avoid the smoke from "running away":

http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/8043/59725910ro1.jpg

2) KWK

Into the KWK end drill a hole and put a feed line in - I used a brass tube. Inside the KWK end you have to make it leak-proof

http://img489.imageshack.us/img489/7880/img5289fu0.jpg

3) The Cable

The smoker is connected like it is shown in the link I have posted above (how to make a smoke generator for the exhaust)

The fan is soldered to the recoil engine.
