RE: King Tiger
Stern, probably obvious to everyone else, but what is all that white stuff you have been painting over the surface of the tank?
|
RE: King Tiger
Nice work yet again stern.
Going back a few posts to the fire extinguisher,is it a kit or did you fabricate all those little parts yourself? |
RE: King Tiger
I see, what did you use? Is it just paint?
I have just one query on the use of this texture, is the texture caused by rust and years of built up layers of paint? Therefore a period tank would not have had such a rough texture as in reality it may have been new, straight off the production line that month and then destroyed....or are you modelling a present day museum exhibit? Hey Stern, I'm just being the devils advocate, you know a lot more than I do. [8D] |
RE: King Tiger
Hallo 50Kaliber,
no, I have used "modelling body putty" - called "Plasto" - from "Revell" - No, the structure is not caused by rust - it is a result of the production process (shaping) of big steel parts, so also on a new King in 1944 :D - if you take a near look at a steel boat you will see the same ... do not forget that the effect will become as lower as more paint on the Tiger will get ... Forward with little screw heads on the turret-blower (blower from Professional; screw heads from the wecohe basic KT set) http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/1884/tigerii086ao8.jpg http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/9308/50212568bt6.jpg http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/4904/21667260nb3.jpg http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/6533/76171636fk2.jpg http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/1997/52921266hi9.jpg Greetings |

Had been near to Obersturmführer Dollingers (LSSAH) Tiger II 211 in La Gleize (Belgium) and so I took a few photos. Fantastic, because the 211 got a new basic color ...

RE: King Tiger
Stern, do you know what tank caused the damage to the front glacis plate?
|
RE: King Tiger
Hallo 50Kaliber,
I only can express, what Rolf Erhardt, who took part in the fight at the 21./22. December 1944, said. After his discription there had only been Shermans on the mountain side across La Gleize ... so I think that this could be a hit from a Sherman - but an exact reconstruction of the situation is not possible ... Hope that helps. Greetings |
RE: King Tiger
So, a little update on Axel's photoechted grills from Version 1.0 to Version 2.0
Here you can see the difference - the new one do have 3D optic ... http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/9201/vers2xb1.jpg On the Tiger http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9607/vers22nr6.jpg |
RE: King Tiger
Those grills are awesome. I can see the little 'weave' in there. Where do they come from? Do they sell generic sheets of the stuff? (for my PzIII)
|
RE: King Tiger
Stern, I'm amazed by the incredible work that you have done on this King Tiger. I always knew that you were a great modeler, and this work is truely top notch but...I want to see it painted before Christmas! :D Is that going to be possible?!! How many more details will you need to include before ready to add the camouflage?
Not only do you have a great eye for detail, but apparently the patience of Job, as well! [sm=thumbs_up.gif] Jason |
RE: King Tiger
Jason, thanks a lot !!!
Happy to read from you ! :) Yes, the plan is to finish it before Christmas ! :D I think that 3/4 of the work is done and I hope to move after the mini-details a bit faster forward - but these little parts need a bit of time and the right moment to be done  ... otherwise they will have to be done again ... bhop73, you can order the grills at [link=http://www.axels-modellbau-shop.de]Axels [/link] - take a look or write an email to them - if you have problems let me know, then I can help you. Moving forward with the KWK screw and plate from ABER http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/6...ed1copyvg1.jpg http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/3023/64318653uy4.jpg And the left side details (wecohe basic KT and ABER Tiger I Basic Set ) http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/5520/1lez1.jpg http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/3245/2lwi7.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/5...lterungze3.jpg http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6472/3lnv3.jpg http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/4732/img5628of2.jpg http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/5600/img5652ne4.jpg http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/5891/img5653ws4.jpg http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/4655/35luw5.jpg http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/9040/4ldu5.jpg Greetings |

RE: King Tiger
Greetings!
New to this forum as well as this thread. Mr. Stern, Stern, or King Tiger maestro, I can only add to the accolades of others on your build! Totally awesome! Here's my story; off and on again plastic modeler for years. I had left the Tamiya MPEG video of the fully functional KT running on my computer. The wife saw it and wanted me to build one for the grandson. So here I am with a big kit and wanting to do the best I can to detail it, although I'm sure I won't be anywhere close to yours! My question right now...could you please post a list of all the extras you've purchased and maybe a website to get them from? Again...outstanding work! |
RE: King Tiger
Welcome to the forum Creekdude !!! And thanks a lot !!!
Well, I should have written on each single step from which dealer every part is ... at the start is all a littlebit confusing, but if you take time you will come "into" the Tiger II. Here is a list of the dealers I have bought from: [link=http://www.axels-modellbau-shop.de]Axel - click on englisch version and then on King Tiger 1/16[/link] [link=http://www.professionalkits.de/shop/index.php/cat/c24_K-nigstiger-1-16.html/XTCsid/152pj52sro85dd7n323lchfe83]Professional[/link] [link=http://www.aber.net.pl]ABER[/link] [link=http://www.wecohe.de]Wecohe[/link] My thoughts towards the different parts I used (or not used) I wrote above - feel free to ask ! For general - if you make the decision to built an real scale historic Tiger II - you will have to modify a lot on the Tamiya Kit, because for that it has more faults then the Heng Long Tiger I ... the mentioned dealers sell parts where the price is o.k. and some parts that are strictly overpriced and sometimes also useless - personally I take a look on the single part and try to get a good price for that what I get ... I will write a list of all parts, if I have a bit of time - till that moment please take a look above ... Do you have found the historic Tiger and unit you will built ? Involve your grandson in that search - makes a lot of fun - and after this search he is able to understand every single part of the Tiger II and the unit ! [link=http://forum.panzer-archiv.de/viewforum.php?f=36&sid=0486277a16d86c7f313f8471706 7aa2f]Here you will find a lot of pictures towards the Tiger of each special Panzerdivision[/link] [link=http://www.myallbooks.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=984]Here you can download for free the fantastic book about the Tiger II from Jentz and Doyle ![/link] Greetings and much fun with the Tiger II !!! P.S.: It seems that you do have a wounderful wife ! Greetings to her from Germany ! |

RE: King Tiger
Hi Stern,
I'm sorry, but the old "giant matchstick" trick is not going to fool anyone. Nice try [&o] Just kidding :) Once again you have managed to raise the bar to an even higher level. Well done. The microscopic scale of the rivets and bolts puts you in the same category as a Master Watchmaker. Once again, I tip my hat to you. Cheers :) Mario |
RE: King Tiger
Stern, your tank will probably be the queen of the shelf. Or are you going to run it in mud?
|
RE: King Tiger
If I ever stumble into a mad scientists shrinking machine I am heading over to Sterns to live in that tank ! :)
|
RE: King Tiger
Thanks a lot !!! :)
:D Damn' you saw the trick ... :D That would be the clou - a King Tiger for camping, just put on the trailor of a big truck - what a show to let the Maybach make the Tiger roar on the camping field ! Yes Eugeni, I will drive him in the mud - not to heavy but like others - if something is broken the Instandsetzungszug will reapair the Tiger ! And the rest will be natural weathering ... |
