DAK's Feb event was the proving ground for a few vehicles and the Su-122 not only worked, for the first time in nearly a decade... but kicked arse! The suspension and gearbox fixes "matured" this tank and it ran like I intended it to in 2007. It leveled the IFA battlefield as my wiley german crowd fielded 4 in one event and massacred the rest of us. Once I got this guy in the fight... the tide turned!!!

Looks good Ethan!

But, an SU-122 as a IFA?

It's a fixed casemate TD so I don't see the issue.

It must have been going up against 38t's. ;-)

They're not based on that fact Tom. It's frontal armor thickness.

And besides... it has a howitzer so it's not a TD.

Not criticizing Ethans tank guys... just askin'.

Believe as a club they have all their non-turreted AFV's as IFA. Sure Ethan will enlighten us. We use TFA on all non-turreted AFV's at Danville that way they can maneuver but can still get hit once your inside 10'.

You're just splitting hairs there.

Oh... that's interesting then! I've only read the RCACN rules and never seen what individual clubs do. I certainly don't have an issue with it , just asking since I saw the tape.

The TFA rule on non-turreted vehicles would really be a different angle on the battle too!

The TFA for fixed structure tanks really makes them fun to play and play against. The turret still has the best all around usefulness. Now with limited TFA you only really see the TDs get charged down. When that happens though it is a heavy taking the lead to soak up the initial hits.

DAK has a simple IFA theory.... Without a turret we grant the courtesy as a means to reduce broken gear boxes. Trust me have had many.... The mechanism is simple. A piece of black electrical tape on the front quarter of the APPLE from the middle of each LED. From distance it will not receive a frontal hit but up close it will take hits. Usually within 5 feet. Of course the idea is hit them from the side and rear.

Over the years we have had a small number of IFAs but lately the number has grown. We have Stugs, SturmTigers, Jagdtigers, Jagdpanthers, Su-85/su100/su122/isu-152s. Rumor has it we may see a brumbar by years end.

As this leads to a heavy Axis shift we have also implemented a new rule. (last Saturday actually) No more than two IFAs on any one side. This was implemented by switching apples. It made all thing good again. The allies have made many leaps and bounds on our field. We have some actual Tank Destroyers now.. Hellcat, M36, (M10 soon!) Su-85 and when set to light they are wicked!

Some experimenting with TFA may come about with more modern gear on the field. I am considering having everything from Leopard 2 to Abrams to Type 10 having a TFA option.

We do our best to keep the battles even and "fair" as combat goes. Many times it is still the Sherman set to medium that wins the day. (ask me how I know....!)

A tank with good depression and utilizing slope is a BEAST to deal with. My eldest wont' give my E8 back unless it's broken.
