installing a fan??
 

hi guys..this is probably a really simple question:eek: but how do i wire a 40mm fan (with 3 wires) into the switch on my tiger..? fan works with 2 of the wires when touched to the pos and neg direct from batt..obviously i want fan to switch on when i turn on tank with switch..
1/ do i need to use all 3 of the wires from the fan or can i just use 2 of em..?

2/ there's 3 poles on switch but which ones do i use..?

i have a real mental blank when it comes to understanding wiring or electrics although i've become quite good with a soldering iron since getting my 1st hl tank..!!!;)
the embarrassing part is i already wired a fan into my bulldog but it was a couple o months ago and i can't remember how i did it although i remember just touching wires and creating some sparks[:@]!!! luckily i didn't blow anything and its still working so i don't wanna touch it again..

any help (in very simple terms;)) would be greatly appreciated..

Do you have an old smoker? Or a spare?

Here's how I do it. The little stand in the picture is for the fan. The junction block can be mounted anywhere.

many thanks for the pics james but i just can't read a wiring diagram!!![:@][:-][>:] sorry mate..actually placing the fan is fine, its just the wiring? can i not go directly into the switch poles? thats what i did with the bulldog and its still working perfectly (and touch wood i haven't blown anything yet;)) just dunno how i did it and haven't got the bulldog here to look at?

You can either let the fan get its power directly where it enters the board (red and black), or do what I do and put a little "terminal strip" connector coming from the battery and switch (+ and -) so you can just screw the fan and the board into the terminal... can get pics

Come on mate, that's easy to follow, red = power, black = negative. I made that to remind myself what to do for each tank because I'm a big dummy when it comes to wiring. Like I've posted elsewhere, I've got more blown boards then most guys have tanks due to learning the hard way!

If you don't want to use the junction block then solder the wires on top of the black and red on the board or switch, it doesn't matter. My little design let's you add multiple accessories to the power supply in an orderly manner.

7.2v (direct from battery) feeds to board, and therefor the fan. Fans run on anything 5-13v, but some need a little more than 5v to get them spinning. Using PC fans in a tank is fine :)

ok guys, think i've finally got it now..!!! duh..!!:D had had a long day at work yesterday when i posted last night and i think i had brain freeze[:-](thats my excuse anyway..LOL!
james, got confused with the extra smoker junction on your pic, for now i just want to come off of the switch and having just woken up with a clearer head i'm raring to go..!!
