The tracks I have on my Stuart are the ONLY type used on the M-3/5 series...single rubber block with external guide teeth on the end connectors....NOT the Mickey Mouse M-26 type double pin steel chevron track that some chinese toy maker dreamed up. I posted farther up on this thread about Jack Yang's tracks for this tank. The can be ordered where you can assemble them at home, or he will assemble them so all you have to do is drop off the old ones and put these on. They make a world of difference in appearance alone.
On the gun...it comes with the gun in a fixed, elevated position...however, you can press in on the plastic detent at the top of the mantlet and it will come off. Simply unscrew the holding screws, reverse the gun and remount it. You will have to cut a bit off the back of the gun, but it will then be pointing straight ahead and look lots better. Some guys have installed elevation/depression and even paintball guns in these things. Look at the Photos on M5stuartrctankbattalion.com gallery. It's amazing what some guys have done with these things. Upgrade parts such as proper gun, better Cal 30 MG and M-1917 cradle, periscope guards, etc are availalable on a couple web sites under 1;6 scale tanks. Drawbacks are the single speed, but it runs nice. Some have also been highly modified to run at different speeds. On the sprocket. it has been brought out that they tend to crack....this is the hub that fits over the shaft....Simple solution ( and Jack supplies this with his tracks) place a small hose clamp around the inner hub at that point and there should iliminate the problem. 1;6 scale figures are also available and I can supply a photo of the Stuart SCR radio if you want to put one at the rear of the turret. Hope this helps. |

BIGMIG ;););) Well I just got home and the drive to look at the tank paid off,got this one for $80.00 dollars and the guy I bought it from had bought it new for $100.00 dollars. When I pulled up to his place he was running it out of his shop out to where my car was.he told me it had never been run in the dirt, only a little on his cement driveway and in his house. The tracks look like new,and he had all the goodies that was with the tank when he bought it.It has one small crack on the top of the hull, other than that some cat hairs on it from setting in his shop.He told me he had charged the battery twice since he has owned it and was supprised to turn on the transmitter and discovered the battery still worked because it was the original in the transmitter from when he bought it.I need not say I'm very pleased tonight. A few pictures BIGMIG ;););) I'm not real wild about the color, asked the guy if he had painted it and he said no that this was the original way it was painted when he bought it.Still full of dust, dirt, spider webs, and a little hay from his barn.(I called it a shop but it was actually a barn he had been storing it in) :D:D |
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
ORIGINAL: Turbobearcat I found one for $125 buck near me!!! I'm thinking about it..it's modified as well... Should I go for it??? Hey turbobearcat did you jump on that Stuart for that price, how can you go wrong for that kind of money. BIGMIG ;););) |
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
I am extremely envious. :P
Odds of me finding a decent price on one in Canada are about zilch/100...and shipping from ebay would be pricey. Oh well. D. |
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Looks very good and a great price too. My 1/16 scale tanks are beginning to look a little too small[:o]

Pattoncommander
Thanks for pointing me in the direction of Jack for the tracks. Exceptionally helpful and pleasant guy who took a lot of time to answer my questions. I have now ordered a set and await them (impatiently). Now spurred on to do some more detailing on one of my M5s in preparation for the arrival. Cheers again Gorehound. |

RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Hey I like your tank Commander, didn't know you had one of these big guys.Just took the one out and ran it that I bought yesterday, man these things will realy climb up a steep bank. They are not real fast but they do look neat when you run them.
BIGMIG :D:D:D |
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Yeah, I cut off the fenders and it looks a lot better.. but unfortunately my charger died and I haven't been able to find a replacement. It's only been run outside once... dangit... but when I did, it got tons of attention. (at the park)

RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Got a question here for anyone who has done any changes on the internal workings of these tanks. What I have in mind is installing one of the airsoft BB machine guns off of one of my humvee's.There apears to be ample room to trim this gun down and add length to the barrel and make it pretty realistic and mabe even close to scale.None of this gun would be seen it would all be inside the turret like any other tank, and in diameter and lenght it would look right on this tank.It is a fully fast shooting machine gun, puts out a lot of BB's per minute. What I had hoped to use was the little servo motor that fires the exsisting gun,but the problem is it is tied into the cannon cycle. When you fire the gun the tank recoils backwards and this little servo motor cycles just long enough to fire the dart out of the cannon and then it stops until you fire again and then it goes through another cycle.Had this little servo motor continued to run as long as you hold the button down this would be very easy to accomplish what I want to do.I think this is part of a program on the main board and can't be changed.I want to keep the original control in this tank for now I like the way it works and also the sound system.Had this little servo that fires the gun continued to run as long as you hold the button down I could have used a cam-switch for actually firing the machine gun.I have thought about the idea of kinda combinning the board out of the humvee transmitter into the one for the stuart, and using the board out of the humvee for all the other gun features. But not sure if this would work with out the two radios interfearing with each other. No problem in this tank for room, but might be a tight fit for the second board in the transmitter. If anyone has tried something like this or has any Ideas,I would like to hear them. RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Just edited this ---I had mentioned a M5 stuart tank listed on ebay---THIS IS NOT AN RC TANK-----
BIGMIG ;););) P.S. just wanted to mention that if you bid on this tank I would ask and make sure this is an "RC MODEL"---Did not see anything that indicated this is RC----I believe there were NON RC VERSIONS of this tank made also---But I'm not posative about this. BIGMIG [:-] I CHECKED WITH THE SELLER-----THIS IS NOT RC------ |
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
I have a static one (non rc) I would trade for some of your electronics. I'm in Calgary, shipping would still be a pain on such a large tank!

RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Anyone got a hedgerow cutter they would part with????????
|
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
I've got one with each of the tanks I bought but not sure if I want to get rid of one, don't run my tanks with them on but if I ever sell them down the road they would be nice to have with the tank.I have seen them on ebay in the 1/6 tank searches a few times, might want to keep an eye out there.Just saw one on there about 2 weeks ago. My wife is the biggest obstacle at the moment but I think will be short lived. Pictures later!! |

After talking with a few people now about these 1/6 tanks I have changed my mind about this one that has a paint job that makes it look muddy,at first I didn't like it but now I don't think there is that many of them around so I'm going to leave it like it is.Seems like most of them were olive drab, and the ones with this paint job were not that pleantifull.Anyone see very many of these around.

RE: 1/6 scale stuart
Hello bhop73,
The man I just bought my new 1/6 stuart from may have a stock charger for one of these tanks. He sold one to a guy in France and he thinks the guy may not want the charger shiped with the tank(voltage we think is wrong for that country). If this turns out to be the case I'll give him your name here on RCU and he can contact you.I will mabe know next week if he will have this for sale. BIGMIG ;););) |
RE: 1/6 scale stuart
