RE: HL Stug III...??
ORIGINAL: YHR You are right. I have had a look at the 1/35 scale Tamiya stug and Heng long upscaled it and copied everything about it. Every part and the crew men have all be upscaled from a Tamiya parts tree. I think I owe Pcomm an apology. This Stug, without a doubt it is an exact copy of the Tamiya 1/35 offering Sorry if I come across as being argumentative. I do like a good debate. I find it entertaining, but if you don't know that about me then yes, I do tend to stir the pot. No harm intended. No problem. With regard to the Stug I'll take your word for it that it's an upscaled Tamiya, no big surprises here. I'm pretty new to 1/16 scale RC armor so I can't speak to the lineage of specific HL models, but it is fairly common knowledge in the 1/32 and 1/18 scale military collectors world that many models are 90% or greater direct copies of Tamiya, and probably others as well. With that in mind, it wouldn't be too surprising to find that more than a few of HL's tanks had their roots in someone elses work. |

Hi Ostketten
Following your approach to the theory of "scaling-up", then Tamiya's Stug III is just a "downscaled" Altmärkische Kettenwerk GmbH Stug......:D:D Regards |

It happens with just about any manufactured product / commodity you can find from toys to cars to pharmaceuticals to furniture polish & even TV shows.
I was talking last year with Deans Marine, probably one of the most renowned model ship kit manufacturers in the world... think of them as the hobby's Tamiya. They were incensed to find their Tribal Class destroyer being offered by a respected Chinese model factory, especially since the copy includes the mistakes Dean made on their initial release that have since been corrected. They also questioned a Fletcher & several other models offered by this factory but have little recourse aside from trying to get the factory banned from selling in the UK/EU. |
RE: HL Stug III...??
Sometimes those "flaws" in the original are deliberate! When Stan Weston and Don Levine came up with 'America's Moveable 12" Fighting Man' a.k.a. G.I. Joe in 1964, they were denied a "Copyright" for their figure since the human body is Universal Property. They devised their own by adding that "trademark" facial scar and (less obviously) molding the left thumbnail on the wrong side of the thumb..... !
Makes you wonder about all those "incorrect" HL mantlets, pistol ports, etc.... :D |
