noisy gears
 
hello all my tiger 1 has 3:1 metal gears but they are a bit noisy when i go fast what can i do

Hi Thomas

This is a "normal" behaviour on new gears. There are some threads on this forum about how to run in the gears. In the local team here in Denmark, we use WL-40 which is very effective. Others use standard toothpaste when preparing the gears.

I think I read a thread a year ago or so where Harold [Pzrwest] filled the gears with silicone or something to quiet them. I'll see if I can find it...

Found the thread I was talking about. It gives some ideas, but no real definate answer

I don't think running longer helps. I broke mine in good when they were new and have been runing them for a year and they are still loud. I will eventually replace all of mine with steel gears [when Bill gets more in [:o] ]
