I'm just curios where you guys buy weathering and painting supplies from. I like the Tamiya products, but wanted to know if you guys found any good deals on them. thanks.

Hi I don't like the tamiya paints they stay real glossy looking and don't stick well I found the model master (testors) water types work very well they dry very dull also and spray real nice in the airbrush.

Our forum sponsor, Tower Hobbies!

I like Polly Scale acrylics myself. Thins with water and doesn't stink up the house. Also like Xtracrylix which I get in USA from Roll Models.

Since my local hobby shops are an exercise in frustration most of the time, my go to hobby shop has been Tower Hobbies for years now with no complaints!

I use cheap acrylic paint from Micheals. Cut it with 50% water, add some liquid dish detergent to cut the surface tension, and it works fine in an airbrush. I also use filters screens on all my siphon tubes to ensure they don't suck up any globs into the tube.

Speaking of dullcote, I tried it (#1160) on my Bulldog and found it have a gloss finish. I'm surprized because you all seems to get a matt finish. So I went back to Testors 4636.

Dullcote is #1260, probably why you got a gloss finish. :D
And if that is the right one you got then you might not have shaken it enough, if not shaken it does come out glossy, happened to me.

#1260 is a spray can, #1160 is a small paint pot. I will shake it well next time. Thanks for the advice.

I appreciate the help guys. I used YHR's idea for dullcoating...the window frosting. Man, that stuff works great for the tanks. I do not currently have an airbrush so I am doing this with the Tamiya spray acrylics and weathering kits. just trying to find some deals on the weathering stuff...they are rather pricey. I guess you get what you pay for though.

I began using these products http://www.modelerswarehouse.com/ a while back and found it is pretty easy to use and is in the USA.

I myself like Tamiya products mainly, but have great success with Testors too, it just depends on the color I need. Once my paint booth is installed, brand will pretty much be a thing of the past because then I can mix the paint.

I get paint from Tower Hobbies or support my local hobby store, Hobbytown USA.

yellowshaker,
For what it's worth like YHR I use the cheap ($0.89 per bottle) craft paints from Michaels with a few Tamiya colors thrown in on occasion. I use Testor's Brand Dullcoat in the Aerosol cans (#1260) and then weather with water colors (Reeves brand also at michaels) and weathering pastels.

Like you I found them to be expensive, especially if you use name brands like MIG or CMK. But here is a site from the 1/35th scale world that carries a lot of paint as well as their own line of pigment powders. They are good quality and the amount you get makes it a pretty good deal, as their containers are much larger than most oe the other companies.
