Pershing Vs Panther
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Brothers,
Inspired by David's BULLDOG, I want to do a PERSHING. I want to model the tank in the famous duel at the Cathedral. I found a picture of a tank that is kinda ify as to if this is the Pershing or not. Anyone help me out here? Don |
RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Hopefully someone comes forth with some info. All I've been able to find was 3 photos, 2 of which were useless and the one you posted. Also, the crew of the tank....that about it. I too wanted to model that, but can't really find good pic's of it.

RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Don, that's most definately a Pershing and from the background, Germany or France. The shipping stencils on the skirts indicate that it may be one of the Zebra tanks in Mar-April 45. It would be a good "partner" for your Tigers.

RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Don, I found another photo of the same Pershing. It's at Cologne, Pershing # 26, of Co E 32d Regt. This is the tank that took out the Panther at the Cathedral and also got another one near Paderborn.

Tony, Photos from Cologne.
The photo of the Pershings in the field with guns over the deck are Lt Grimball's platoon near Vettweiss. The Pershing on the road passing the VTR is from Co C, 19th Bn, 9th Armored Div. The others are of #26, Co E, 32d Regt, 3 AD, one outside of Cologne and the other views of the Pershing hunting the Panther. Hope these help. Bill |
RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Thanks Bill! They do help a bit, little hard to make out the markings, but helpful nevertheless!<div>
</div><div>Is it me, or do those side skirts have pretty sharp angles, especially in the first pic?</div> |
RE: Pershing Vs Panther
The skirts that come on the HL or Tammy Pershing are pretty accurate. Early models had them bolted, but later improved with hinges on the center pieces. I sent you photos via email...did you get them OK?

RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Hey Bill,
Yes I did. Thanks you very much. I meant to reply however I was overcome by events. Don |
RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Strange that they had the 50 cal covered up.

RE: Pershing Vs Panther
Roger Don, I was surprised by that also. Considering all the problems they had with snipers, the ma deuce should have been open and ready to go. Possible they had some real nasty weather and trying to keep it from rusting, but hey, this was a combat zone. Those old canvas covers went on and came off pretty easy. Maybe easier to get a sniper by taking out the whole building with the 90mm. [:-]

Great work Bob!!!! Don |
RE: Pershing Vs Panther
I know I've dug up a 2 year old thread, but I was wondering if anyone modelled the Pershing that killed the Panther in this engagement in any scale?
I've found examples of the destroyed Panther but nothing on the Pershing other than it coming from Pershing # 26, of Co E 32d Regt (thanks Pattoncommander). |

I know that there is a video on youtube with an interview of the TC fromt that Perhsing too. Don't know how much that would help you, but I think it would be a great tank to model.
