RE: Tamiya TRF 801XT Build Thread
Yeah, mud flaps included would be nice - but I'm using the HB D8T ones linked to above, and for $8, it's well worth it. Just had to trim some extra off of 'em to fit, that's it.
Been running my 801xt as much as possible by the way (weather hasn't always agreed), and I simply love it. It's my first 1/8 vehicle - very capable, very fast, very fun. It's edging out others in my collection for runtime attention, that's for sure. So I gotta be sure to spread the love.

Very shiny! I remember when mine was clean. Barely.
Be sure to check the set screws that hold the drive pins in place, through the hexes. Even though I used thread lock, one of mine likes to back out now and again if I'm not watching it for a while. Just check 'em before you run!

Beautiful outdoor pics! Nothing beats outdoor, pure lighting. Congrats on the showcase win!
You've had a chance to give it a go for a good while yet? Mine's nice and dirt covered by now. [&:]

Sweet. Let us know how it goes!
I feel like cleaning mine off now that I see yours....dragging it outside, taking some nice pics. I never got a chance to do that (only pics indoors, on my workbench). Not much beats a really quality clear pic of a new RC outside.

RE: Tamiya TRF 801XT Build Thread
its not clean any more! I had a good 4 or so tanks through it until a screw that holds the steering knuckle to the upright fell out. I couldn't find the screw but I found that special spacer that is really hard to get elsewhere. So I drove the nitrage for a while. now I have two truggies to clean off!! No video. the phone wasn't doing a good job of capturing it.

So what is going on out there with these truggies? I bough one too and it should be delivered in the next few days. Any more feedback on how it handles on the track? Out of curiosity what kind of pinion does it come with in the box?
Any word on Tamiya finding a pro driver for this vehicle. It is kind of sad that nobody is driving this on main events? Any feedback?
Thanks,
Eric

That Nitrage has some pretty beefy tires, doesn't it?

i've been bashing both and let me say, the nitrage takes some silly abuse. I mean monster jumps and me trying to front flip it and just smashing all kinds of angles into the ground, making craters in the grass.
The trf801xt handles awesome. I can tell how adjustable it is. it feels so precise on a track.

RE: Tamiya TRF 801XT Build Thread
Sick thread, good job guys.
I'll post a build thread of my MBX5T conversion which should be here in the next few days, Tekno RC conversion, MMM, Neu 2200, will 'unite' 3x 2s batts for some silly 6S video.
What kinda oils are yoiu guys running in the diffs with the leccy conversions? I'm gonna start with a 15t pinion, so it's already gonna wheely like hell. I was thinking F-M-R 10-15-5 or 10-15-10, I know that would be heavy for the track, but I'm only gonna be bashing it for a while. Racing later maybe.

RE: Tamiya TRF 801XT Build Thread
I just put in the oils Tamiya gave me - 10k all around (F/M/R). For my bashing, that suits me just fine. I will probably experiment with different weights next time I inspect/clean/rebuild the diffs. Will be looking for recommendations at that point.
Not much on the wheelie side of things for me, but oodles of power even on 4s. I'm guessing the center diff with my oil weight keeps the wheelie-ing to a minimum? Although I can raise the front end now and again.
I should take and post some updated pics of the guts of my truggy now that I replaced the mongo EZRun with a MMM and all, but it's really dirty at this point. [8D] Got skid marks on the roof now since I took a spill coming onto a parking lot off the grass and skidded upside down for quite a while. That one's not gonna come out. [&:]
Looking forward to your build thread Foxy. 6s should be wicked fast.

Yeh, the wheelies (or lack thereof) are all to do with centre diff. Wheelies get old real fast, and then you just wish the truck would keep the steering wheels on the ground. I'll go 10-15-10. For racing you'd probably want about 10-10-5, depends how you drive. If you prefer to whip it out of corners, put 10-10-10, if you are a grip driver though, you can prevent some tail 'kick' out of the corners by going lower in the rear diff.
Stuff should be here in a couple more days with a bit of luck.

Which can are you using? I'm not sure if I want to go electric or nitro. I have a castle 2650 sitting around and a AE .28 ported. I'm leaning more towards the nitro option(sitting in my pile of parts) as the 2650 is in an Xray 808 that I'm still enjoy at the track. Is the 2650 strong enough for this truggy?
