Thanks dude, that helps. Are your "RC Product Design" engravings also facing the diff on both mounts?

Haven't put in the radio box yet?

Hmm, instructions said you might have to dremel the stock radio box a touch, but that's about it. Haven't lined it up myself yet, though.

Its the servo mount that you have to cut the box is too big, you would have to cut it in half for it to fit

After looking at it now, I see what you mean. I really like the idea of having a radio box to protect from splashing and keep things cleaner. Hmm, might have to re-use something around the house in a neat way to make my own. Or just slap the Rx on the chassis plate.

Nifty. I'll have to persue AE's stuff to see if I can find that.

In other (build related) news, I've made more progress and have pics ready - just need to upload them from home. Might not happen for a few days though, so stay patient kind readers!

So, the electric conversion kit arrived the other day from RC Product Designs. Quite nice! An alloy motor mount, a delrin mount, and an alloy plate to hold the ESC. Battery tray included as well - note the nifty engraving on the metal from those guys. Nice touch!

And here's a shot of the stuff installed. Well, mostly. No ESC plate on in the pic, no motor mounted yet. Trust me, I'm getting there (eventually).

And now here's the rear brace installed, connecting the rear bulkhead stuff to the chassis plate. There's one little area where you have to somehow hold a nut in place in a tiny gap and thread a screw up in there at a rough angle. It's almost comical. It's the nut you can barely see in the lower left of the picture, where the brace hits the chassis plate.

And now here's the front end just after the steering is installed. We then put the carbon fiber plate over that, mounting to the steering posts - and also a front brace, similar to the rear one. The steering is ultra smooth. Very nice.

As you can see, the big beefy shocks are also installed. Getting closer now!

Next up is to trim the stock servo mount to fit, and perhaps hack up some kind of radio box. Or just sit the Rx on the chassis plate directly. Hmm.....I'm liking that AE one that secretsg linked to earlier. Time to research...

I was checking out the servo saver and I realized that Tamiya used non shielded bearings on the steering so naturally they were clogged with dirt[:@] I might change them out to rubber shielded ones...................

Yeah, it was nice that the kit had bearings all around, but none are shielded. I'll wait until they clog up or fail, and replace as necessary.

Slow going on my end. Gotta find a radio box - Secretsg, any idea what vehicle your source's radio box came off of? Would make searching easier. Also need to buy another Rx for this. D'oh!

I also lined up my mod1 pinion from the E-Savage, and something doesn't seem right about the mesh. I thought it was mod1, maybe I'm wrong and it's 32 pitch. Dangit. Might have to buy a new pinion - need a 5mm hole though, as the motor shaft is 5mm.

Gotta figure out what size pinion to get now (18T? 20T?)

I know the ones on the output from the front and rear diffs are rubber sealed.......maybe the previous owner changed them? I did not do a full rebuild on this because of time and because it seemed pretty solid, only cleaning, a new body and those shocks really needed attention.

My ESC came in yesterday but I was working on my tank and now that I think about it since I had the soldering iron out for the tank I should have soldered the deans on the ESC..........[:'(] that deserves a durrrrrrrrrrr[&:]

As an FYI, the radio box pictured above by secretsg can be found here at Tower:

Looks like a solid fit to me!

I went ahead and purchased the radio box linked to above, along with a mod1 18T pinion with a 5mm shaft hole so it would fit on the Medusa motor properly. I did some research with the pinions I had lying around, and they are 32 pitch. I did have a mod1 pinion from an e-sav build I did, but that was internal for the transmission metal gear mod I did - hence my confusion. I had lined up my E-sav pinions (32P) on this 801XT and the mesh just wasn't right.

Anyway, with the mod1 on its way (radio box too), I should be rolling again soon, with more pics.

I decided on 18T as sort of a SWAG at this point - I'll be running a 2200 kV motor on 4S lipo with an outer tire diameter of about 5.5 inches. We'll see how it goes - I'll judiciously check temps on the ESC and motor once I get this running.

Lee, I'm not sure I noticed anything wrong with the box on mine. If there are marks there, they must be pretty insignificant. Honestly, I expected a corner to be crushed in at least. But not so!
