center universals same length as GS
HI there.
The GS universals cost an arm and a leg. I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me which other brands can be used as a replacement ( and only cost and arm OR a leg ). I have heard people talk about Kyosho, others about OFNA.
The shorter one measures 9.7cm / 3.75in and the longer one 10,9cm / 4.205in.
THX, Ferdi

RE: center universals same length as GS
I had checked the stores before my post - that means, the ones I know.
A dealer from Singapore measured some parts for me and I have decided for MP777 replacements. The front center CVD is 4mm longer, but should fit, as the GS one is little short. The 777 part will reach into the center diff cup a little deeper. I'm 98& positive they are interchangable. At less than a quarter of the price it's worth taking the risk (and you can always resell Kyosho replacements).
The rear center CVD is as long as the GS part. Everything else is comparable (set screws etc.).

Ferdi, I would be very interested to see how you get on with these new cvds. Could you update us on how they fit and possibly post some pictures? Thanks.

They do not fit, length is OK, but the pins on the bone (how the heck shall I know what these are called?) are a tad too long. They don't really go into the middle diff cup, they either bind with the slots of the cup or the brake discs. These were RC BEST center CVDs for the MP777.

Sorry to hear that Ferdi. I am looking for cheaper alternatives also and will let you know if I find any that will work.

RE: center universals same length as GS
I shortened the pins and checked with a GS middle diff cup. It took me about ten minutes of dremel work, I had to shave off a good millimeter of every pin.
The 777 CVDs by "RC BEST" I bought in the bay cost me 14 Dollars a pair, the GS CVDs cost three times as much if not more.
Next time I disassemble the SUT (weekly ceremonial...) the 777 CVDs will get in.

RE: center universals same length as GS
Here you see the different center CVDs. The black ones are the original by GS (cost an arm and a leg), the silver ones are by RC BEST (bought them in the bay for $14 a pair) and are for the Kyosho MP777. The silicone boots are included. Note that the overall length is slightly longer:
As I stated above, the length is unproblematic. In fact the GS CVDs are a little short for the slightly longer SUT Pro chassis. The 777 CVDs fit lengthwise, BUT the pins are too long. Here you can see a GS and an RC BEST CVD with shortened pins on the left (10 minutes of Dremel work for both CVDs) and two RC BEST with original length pins on the right:
The material seems to be good, after using a Dremel you can really tell
All right, here they are attached to the front and rear diffs:
And the middle diff is back in. The 777 CVDs by RC BEST fit just fine.
They reach into the middle diff cups a bit deeper but that is uncritical. In fact the middle diff cups could last twice as long by using them with the shorter GS CVDs and then with the longer RC BEST 777 CVDs, because both types wear the cups in different spots.
