Okay, okay...... I know it probably wasn't the brightest thing to do, but I couldn't resist. I went to the dirt track this morning and was running through my last tank before I had to leave. This place has a off road track, paved oval, and road course all back to back. So.....I uh..... went over to the paved oval to see what a CRT with a V-spec running 30% could do. I don't believe I've EVER heard the engine rev that high. The only thing that stopped the run is the screw backing out holding the clutch bell. Thought I really screwed it up. Can this kind of high-speed stuff mess up an engine? I figure it can't be too bad considering there are on-road nitro cars that must sound similar. Not that I'm looking forward to doing it again. Thanks.

Well onroad cars are geared for that kind of track and generally have two speeds. Your CRT is not geared for high speed runs... Honestly being that you have a VSPEC you are lucky you didn't blow a rod in that thing as VSPECS won't last long at WOT and full RPM's. not sure how long you did this but if it was for too long you may want to replace that conrod as a precaution as it may have took a beating.

Properly tuned engine shouldnt grenade - even from a runaway. Well - not a fullt tank at WOT ... but lengthy runs at WOT / max rpms are not really recommended - but shouldnt be the death of a well tuned/maintained engine.
