servo for mbx5t
Im building a full out race truggy for the 07 pro series events to start in march/april and Im now looking at servos. I found one that has Torque: 115 oz-in at .06 speed, was just wondering if that will be enough for the mugen mbx5t truggysteering?
If not, I have other servos in mind but the speed isnt as fast. Im thinking it might be enough but Im not 100% sure. If anyone has another servo that has more torque with that speed or faster and more torque please list them.
This is for rc pro series so cost is no object, it needs to be fast and good. TY

RE: servo for mbx5t
A .10 transition time is probably better. If the servo is too fast on steering, it will feel twitchy. And I'd personally go for something with 200 oz-in of torque and a .10 transit time.
And since you said cost was no object: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...dID=JRPSZ9000T. Sure it is overkill on torque, but you'll have enough torque to turn the wheels while it's standing. Which means that you'll be able to get around corners even going very slowly. A .06 would be good for brakes though.
Some may argue that the .06 is faster, and faster is better, but a .10 is fine

RE: servo for mbx5t
Last time I checked, .14 sec is faster than .15
A: better gears
B: faster transit
C: Has Heatsink
Hitec is far less likely to crap out. I cant say that for the other JR's i had.

It's faster, and has more torque.

RE: servo for mbx5t
almost everyone at my track runs hitec 5955 or 5995. can you say 333oz of torque at .15sec. the 5995 is capable of 416oz at .12 at 7.2v! i run 5995 on steering and 5955 on throttle. set your endpoints and forget about replacing servos. if you get them wet, make sure to let them dry for a few hours before use or you will be replacing them or any other servo!

I have the Airtronics 94358, great servo!
Also have had bad luck with Hitec servos. Although they have good customer service... I still run a Hitec radio though with no issues at all.

RE: servo for mbx5t
This is the servo you want for steering. The speed rate is meaningless with hitec as they are rated conservativly.
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXHZR9&P=7
This servo is literally twice as fast as my 94358's and faster than the 94357 (.10) I had for throttle/brake. Trust me, your wheels WILL turn with some authority and quicker than you could imagine. You will get better CS with hitec than JR.
I called Hitec to ask if I would void my warranty by opening and desoldering the wires on my servo, their response was "There is nothing you could possibly do to void the warranty on our servo's". That alone solidified me as a Hitec customer from now on in the servo department.

This makes sense to me. I recently replaced a .10 sec Futaba servo with this 5955, and my steering doesn't feel any slower at all.

RE: servo for mbx5t
Hitec servo's speed is rated very conservatively, I was blown away when I installed one of the 5955TG's in my rig, super fast. Not to mention I didnt turn down the EPA (copied my LST profile into the new one) before setting the endpoints and almost ripped the steering rack off of the truck as I was setting the EP's, that thing is SOOO powerful. I also have a 5965MG for throttle/brake and its so fast it isnt funny. I've had some pretty good servos in my day but the hitecs are the way to go IMO, I cant say enough good about them.
Those 2 are going in my 8ight buggy when it gets here, and I am getting an identicle set for my truggy that will be here in a month or 2.

RE: servo for mbx5t
LOL 5955 are pretty much the servo to have to steer a truggy, Faster then what they say(or everyone else just overrates there stuff) I know my 5955 is faster than any other servo Ive seen.the airtronics .10 servos have nothing on the hitec ti servos. Why pay more for a weaker slower servo that airtronics/sanwa wont cover when/if it needs service.

I have to say jr z9000T. Why, you dont want it to fast on steering and and this one has tons of torque, and how necesary is titanium gears and a heatsink, how often do you see metal gear servos strip or see a battery overheat or even really get hot.

RE: servo for mbx5t
The hitec is better than the JR 9000, a few guys at LSTF's were comparing them, and the dude with the JR wished he had bought the hitec.
Personally, I am a DIEHARD Losi person, meaning I have to accept horizon along with that. But you will get MUCH BETTER support from hitec.
The JR9000 is a serious servo dont get me wrong, its just as good as the hitec, but in all honesty I truely believe the 5955TG is a better servo, if not because of performance, because of the support you get from hitec. I wont even bother calling for any kind of support from horizon/JR, I have never got anywhere with them. It just sucks for me because losi is under that umbrella. But I dont call CS to often so I dont worry about it.
If you havent tried hitec servo's before, you have no idea what quality is, above and beyond the product. The company itself is as good as it gets.
I'll see what I can do about getting 2d to post a vid of the 5955TG in action, it really is something to rave about.

RE: servo for mbx5t
I too am pitching my praise to Hitec. Of all their servos I have used, not one of them has failed even after nearly two years of hard bashing abuse.
I do not race off-road, I only bash. I have the HS 5995TG, the sister servo to the 5955 and this robot servo has been nothing but a blessing for my bashing experiences. It has plenty of torque and the wheels turn on command and stay in the position I turn the wheels to no matter how hard of a crash I run my truck into. As for the titanium gears? Bullitproof! Afterall, this servo is capable of picking up more than two pounds with a one foot radius servo arm (if such a horn exists). The 5995 is also capable of 416oz-in at 7.2V! (Of course, assuming you can find a way to push 7.2V into it.) 416oz-in is 2.167lbf-ft by the way. Even when only pushing 6V into it, the 333oz-in is nothing to sneeze at.
Now, as for my robot servo, I do have to cut its 180degree operating arc in half using EPA. I also heard that doing this hurts the turning time. I dont know since I never compared both the 5995 and 5955 side by side. But for $97 (including S&H!), I am by all means not complaining. Since I only bash when it comes to off-road, whatever transit time penalties my 5995 might suffer does not hurt my bashing experience at all.
Since we are talking about MBXs, if this transit time penalty is significant, I would highly suggest to go with the 5955 over the 5995. Any race buggy will also want turning speed in addition to the high torque. Otherwise, cornering will suffer in competitive situations.
As for customer service, I too would choose no other. Hitec will literally replace my servos with no questions asked. But since they have never failed on me yet, I have not called them.

RE: servo for mbx5t
Thanks, hi-tech it is. Im also going with the nomadio react system as its transit time is faster than the spektrum Im running now. Plus, the recivers will work with the react system. Now if anyone only knew info on the new OS .28xz-b truggy engine, thinking of running it or perhaps give the Radical 621T a try. Lookis like this build will cost more than my custom works sprint car did.....lol

I run the nomadio sensor and I'd bet you'll love the react. Nomadio is another company where CS is second to none. I've had really good luck with them, ontop of that they just keep getting better and better. Their radio's look a little funky but when you put one in your hand the looks no longer matter.
Sounds like you've made some good choices. Good luck!
