well i'm finally breaking in the OEM engine. Boy was it tuned way outta specs. Had to set idle speed, reset the HSN, god only knows what the LSN is supposed to be at cuz the manual doesn't say anything about it. Seems to be finicky. Running at 280s under heat cycle... has me worried about the quality.

EDIT- something is god awfully wrong with the settings. I cant find a position where the engine actually runs happy with the LSN. Anyone else have it figured out? I need to know how many turns from closed it SHOULD be. This thing overheats on its own at an idle!

make sure the idle screw is set close. About 1 to 1.25mm open.
then set the low end needle flush or close so it idles fat should
stay at about 170. blurp it in circles and figure 8ts for a couple
of tanks then tune starting with the top

oh boy... its its gotta be flush, then its cranked way in there. bah, i'm hearing all different answers on where this LSN should be positioned. too bad there isn't much info on the engine out there.

If its set to lean that could be the reason for hi temps and flaming out.
don't forget to check the idle. 1mm to 1.25mm should do it

Hey guys met all the VTX people at the show today and got all my carbon fiber parts servo tray and the front plate. Here are some photos of the crew. And tuning my setting were all out of wack from the factory must have been monday or some thing. So on the LSN I found 4 1/2 out was good and the idle just 1mm and the HSN 3 1/2 out still on the last two tanks and then I will start leaning her out. And check out my new down force wing that I put on. It should help keep that rear end from hoping around. Eric[sm=angry_smile.gif]

HEY All

I was thinking of picking up one of these truggies for my b-day today and had a question on how the front A-arms tie in to the front knuckle. The question is are those upper and lower ball studs snapped into the knuckle or are they held in with a screw? It seems a hard crash would make the knuckle pop off the ball studs. Thanks in advanced.

I have the buggy and the truggy. I have crashed hard with my buggy and broke the ball off in the arm. Broke a steering knucle once but other than that it's all good. It's a great handling buggy for the cost. I have won several heat races with it but no A-main.I don't drive well enough to hang with those guys. I'm gonna race the truggy this weekend for the first time even though I bought it for my son to race.

I ordered mine saturday, should be here friday for a weekend of driving, I've been looking at this truggy a while now and only downfall was the servo issues as well as the radio. The us sports inferno comes with an fm mx3 but I heard bad things about the stock engine and front suspension so the vtx wins. Plus I like racing the underdog, I hope to post lots of good news and tips here on this truck.

Been driving mine now for over two weeks. Just got home from the track, Very strong motor the center diff is leaking and the tires are okay for RTR stock one's need softer. It does not want to run wel tell it's at least 160 temp or better and yes went with a hoter plug, help a little bit. I don't know what the guy was thinking at the factory when he set the LSN and the HSN got those close to good but you will always be changing them and if you don't keep a ziptir on the air filter it will pop off. So for now great truggy flys true and as plenty of power. Will keep my eye on the center diff going to the track again in the morning. Eric

Try cooling the motor by running the bottom a little fat it should
idle O.K. with running a hot plug or even a med. hot
rev. the motor hit the brakes and let idle for 5 seconds then it should change tone
and load up this would be on the fat side. but when running on the track it will never
see 5 seconds on the track

Hey when I tried what you said to fating up the low end I did and then you get the blog blog, But I did fating up the top and now I am getting good results and the temp is at 219 I think that's pretty good. The track I run on is not for a big motor like that one. It is made for 1/10 scale and I don't run that so I will have to go to a bigger track. The truggy loves to go fast when I take it to a open place it does great. So I am sure you are right about the loading up thanks . Eric P.S. it idles fine now too thanks

Pegusus and revalation You? I have got the motor running great and then the stering servo went out again. So now I have to wait tell the end of the month and put out 80 to a 100 bucks on some good servos maybe hitec or jr. But the motor is running sweet now I found out there was a air leak in the fuel line and that was causing all the problems that I was banging my head trying to find out what was going on. So I have it now just can't take it out tell the end of the month. Thanks Eric

hi im looking into buying a truggy but im on a ball @ chain budget-----the vtx looks good but my biggest problom is suspension travel. i looked at the hpi hellfire and losi 8ight-t they both have tons of travel but cost way too much ( great driving and flying trucks ) my second choice is the mantis for $450 but the same suspension travel problom. i know a guy at the local track that has a mantis and everytime he lands you hear chassis slap---but not on the losi 8ight---can some one let me know

It's all in how the suspension is set up.
But with the 8ight-T, it has huge shocks, so it's suspension is really plush

That would be in the choice off shock oil thicker , less dampening

Hey there shreadhead I went out and got some really good servos for the VTX-STI I got the Hitec HS- 645 MG ultra torque for stering and the throtle I got the HS 475 HB deluxe with the karbonite gears they were not cheap. But the will keep me in the front of the pack that's for sure and I running the nomadio react system and it is great I have three cars on it so far and you can put 40 on one radio. Do you run at the HOT BOX track? if so I will be out there this weekend and I will be at a high school race tommrow in the day time with HIGHBANKS RC .COM and the kids from the school have a track at the school it should be cool and greg and VTX might be there? and then I will be at revalations raceway at night. So may be I will see you there ? Eric
