Kyosho ST-RR
Got my ST-RR a few weeks ago and finally got it together. This kit is definetly in a class by itself. Fit/finish and quality of parts are amazing. Took it out to the track last week for final break in and fine tuning. The truck's handling is incredible, very stable and yet it corners very well. Sorry philips screws had to go, some people like them but there just not for me. OS 28ZX and JP4 pipe are a killer combo. I am still dialing in the big bores but you can still feel right away how much better the truggy handles with them. I messed up the paint job, I masked it off with a really elaborate design but when I start to spray my airbrush broke down I couldn't wait for replacement parts so I finished it using regular spray cans and cardboard masks, oh well.

I have the same set up as you Shark413 (Same kit & engine), just wondering how that Jp-4 is working for you, cause I was going to go with the OS 2060 Pipe.

hkenvy91, yeah I agree the green springs are a little soft for my track. Got the springs on order, should be here soon. What weight oil are you running with the blue springs?

RE: Kyosho ST-RR
metroman, I went with the JP4 because the 28zx has tons of torque and I wanted a pipe that would give me more mid-top end punch. I hear the OS 2060 is a solid pipe as well, if you get one let us know how it works out.

RE: Kyosho ST-RR
You all should post those in the str/rr thread. Hey shark, can you look in the manual and hook me up with the front/rear swing shafts number, not the ones from the center diff rather the ones from front/rear diff to the wheels.
I turned my str into a strr back in july early aug and tweedy is working on turning his into a strr and hes the one that needs the new shaft for the big bore set up.
This is by far the best truggy I have yet to own and I cant see my self going back to the mbx5t or crt and theres no way Im running the tank lsp.
Jump over to the str/rr thread and post up, action shots too, its going to be awhile before I get any truggy pics in action, ice storm so Im painting bodies to kill time till spring.
Nice lookn truggies.

nascardad24, according to the manual the front and rear driveshafts are part number IS103, front and rear use the same number. These are the shafts the wheel/hubs attach to.

RE: Kyosho ST-RR
I paid 650.00 for my st-r, but its now an st-rr and way way way over 800 lol.
the price of the st-rr from the factory is 859.00 I believe, but you will be able to find it cheaper online. Also the price will drop in a few months.

RE: Kyosho ST-RR
Got the heavier blue springs and put some heavier oil in the shocks (50 and 55 wt). Took the truggy out to the local track and tested out my new setup. Handling was incredible, normally I try to drive very precise lines and consistancy is the goal, may be not the fastest but I will always finish. With the ST-RR I was able to really let it hang out and the ST-RR would almost drive it self. I could get crazy out of shape and the ST-RR would pull it together and I would be back on the gas. The stiffer springs definetly improved the jumping ability, giving me much more control on take off and landings. I also modified my antenna so only about 2.5 inches sticks out of the rx box (I did not cut the wire, I just tucked the excess wire inside the rx box), this protects the antenna and the tx/rx stills works perfectly.
My brother has a Jammin CRT and I noticed he was running front/rear skids he got online. I took a look and made up a pair for my ST-RR. I used them today and they really absorbed a lot of the beating the chassis would have got. I countered sunk the holes a little deeper than normal so the screw heads wouldn't get chewed up from contact with the ground and they only weigh about 3oz.
Short antenna
Here are the finished plates with some rejects,
After a day at the track (it has huge MX style jumps).

RE: Kyosho ST-RR
I was looking at those skid plates and though about picking a set up, the thought about the added weight. Its not much bit every little bit added weight takes way speed. On the other hand, it saves wear on the rear when you land correctly.
Speaking of ebay, I saw a strr new kit goign for 650 buy it now plush shipping. I think the seller it macs hobby but not 100% sure. There is also a few strr kits built going for a decent price that will save you a build and a little bit of cash.
I also just put my latest str body on ebay, its not show quality but its pretty cool looking. Just started another one today, masking it off now. I like the str body vs the strr body and it will fit the longer chassis.

RE: Kyosho ST-RR
Yeah, I checked out the skids on Ebay. I have a small home mill/lathe so it was pretty easy for me to cut and mill the skids. I got a 12" piece of 6061-T6 aluminum for $1.50 online and I made 6 sets out of it. Together (front and back) the skids weigh 3oz so to me the protection to the chassis is worth the additional weight. The track I race at is pretty hard in the summer with lots of little rocks, and it can really chew up a chassis.
