I busted my engine yesterday and am looking at a replacement but I've been throwing a lot of money around the last month on RC so I want to get a cheaper engine. The Mach .28 seems popular (non pull start) for $120. Just wondering if there are any opinons on it? Seems quite popular, especially in buggies.
Also looking at the SH .25 which is $130 and offers slightly better economy than the .28 version (my club has 15 minute finals and doing 1 fuel stop is a lot better than 2...)

The mach .28 is not a great motor. Oddly the mach .26 is faster. If you want much better performance then the mach .28 look into the sportwerks .26. It is only $117 in your cart. Minus another $5 with this coupon code : CALPJAN85

The mach 427 is a better motor. They're pretty fast and produce good torque, they're not very expensive, and they are VERY easy to tune... =-]

I think they suck .26 .28 if you run them much over 210 degreas they vapor lock. Once you get them running good and they get hot they shut down and won't start again until they cool. To stop that you have to run them pig rich which kills the power. In my opinion xtm racing makes the best cheap engines.

Really don't want a pull or spin start though, can't argue the 427's are good motors though.
My track is technical, the main straight is about 50 meters long so top speed is not that important as torque.

I had the same problem. I ended up going with the Nova Rossi n21b 200$ It's great on the small tracks. After going though a few cheap big boars I put the 24.7 in my mt.

Yep, word on Losi forums has been for ages, the 427 is much better than the 28..
Best budget engines going IMO are Mach 427 or Sportwerks 26 V2, with part number SWK8057(like 12 bucks at Amain..) Just bolted mine up Saturday.. Now just trying to make the d.amn startbox match with my truck... [:@]

If you want the Sportwerks motor to be a bumpstart motor you need this backplate.

I have had bad experiences with Dynamite engines (mach .26 and .28). When I saw people having similar problems with the 427 I assumed it was the same.

yup, agreed unlucky
I even owned a Mach that blew the rod, (I kinda blame myself though)
And I would buy another Mach over another engine the same price
Sorry about busting your balls muddog.. this forum can piss you off,

I have owned about 5 mach .26's. The mach .26 is the same as the mach 427 has the same piston and sleeve. In my experience they have been very, actually extremely durable motors. Most of them lasted 8+ gallons. One lasted 11 gallons! Then I sold it. Funny thing is that motor that lasted 11 gallons got sand in it during the first 1/2 gallon when my air filter fell off.
Now I have another mach 427 and it had about a gallon on it. I added a few tanks 3rd or 4th tank, the pin slid out of the piston because the clip either broke or was missing and it stratched up the sleeve pretty good. I just buffed out the dent in the sleeve and the piston. Then put it all together this time with a clip holding the pin in place and she fired like normal and ran fine! Now it has 4+gallons on it and it still has just as much compression. I really love my mach's never had one fail one me. If you swap the carb they can make some really good power as well.

I've had two 427 .The only bad thing about the 427 is the main bearing. It's extremely weak.
