...Is it possible to put diffs in backwards?
#1
My X1 CRT is running backwards, but I have the front end off, I just wanted to see if my new clutch was working properly. Anyway, I locked up the front wheels, using a hex driver, and the back wheels still spun backwards. I know the engine isn't running backwards, because it's being started off of a starter box, and it's spitting exhaust out of the exhaust. The only other thing I could think of was the diff.
I took the diff apart, by the way, to see what was making it leak. Does the position of the gears in that depend on how the car drives?
Thanks for your time.

LOL, I did that way back when with my Mirage buggy. Rear tire were going right direction, but front spun backwards. Oh the look on my face when I hit the gas, tires spun, dirt went everywhere, but the car just stood there

lmao. Yeah, I had it sitting on my porch, and I hit the throttle, expecting it to go forward a bit, but it flew backward and hit my porch swing. xD

UG0TB4NN3D, just because the engine is running backwards doesn't mean the exhaust doesn't still go out the exhaust. even if the engine is running backwards the exhaust will still go out the exhaust. there 2-stroke and they use ports, not valves and cams like a 4-stroke. if the engine is running backwards the piston still moves the same way (up and down) since theres no moving parts other than the crank/rod/piston it doesn't matter which way the engine spins. it will still run. now the timing may be off for running backwards making the engine have no power when running backwards, but it will still run.
and why in the world did I type that much.

Lol. Oh, I was told that if it was running backwards, it would suck air in the exhaust. :P It's fixed now, though.

think about it. if a engine sucked air in through the exhuast then how will it get fuel to run? and second, how will the fuel and air mix and get forced into the sleeve? whoever told you that go up and ask him/her if an engine will run off sand, and see if they say yes. because thats basically what there saying.
hopefully that will clear some thing up.

Well, he's more of a 1:1 scale 4-stroke engine person, I dunno if he was thinking about it or not, but he said that should be a symptom.

Yep engines do run backwards. Ive witnessed it and have seen a vid of it. The engine runs like trash, but it does run. Its funny when they run backwards, then kick and run the right way, goes from running like trash to being normal.

It can't run backwards with a bumpstart, can it? Because it's turning the flywheel in the right direction, so it should start normal, right? O_o

Unless the car\bumpstart is setup wrong. By bumpstart you mean a starter box right? If its turning the right way, then no it wont do that. its only if you put the car on backwards or wired it backwards and turns the motor backwards that it will start backwards.

Almost all the engines I have had (like 6) have had a moment or 2 where they have fired up (on a starterbox) and run in reverse, stop reving and let them idle for a sec and they start spinning the other way, no idea how it happens..:P
Happened last sunday at a race meet:P
