im wondering, would the hyper pro be as nice as the 8ight-t rtr?
im getting a trug, a friend of my down the road owns a hyper pro, and i want to get one, but my dad wants me to get a rtr.
honestly, how do these two compare to each other?

Here's the RTR Hyper ST:

If that's what you like, get that. Either would serve you well. It would be a good idea to make sure that the local shop stocks parts for the Hyper. The 8ight probably comes with a better motor, but for somebody just starting out, it doesn't make much of a difference.

Kit VS kit= Hyper no doubt
RTR VS RTR=8ight-t.
Hyper is a little heavier but alot more beefy and I think will take alot more abuse. Does not have any qwerky problems either like the 8's servo problems and one off clutch bell setup.

I think the 8ight-t performs pretty good. At my track thats all people ran to be honest, and a few ST-1's, and a few others, but alot of 8ight-t's anyway. They always jumped pretty good, but I think it has alot to do with the mill, shock setup, and tires. With my ST-1 it cleared all the jumps but I was running slicks so of course trying a 8ight-t with nice LPR wheels felt alot better.

lol I guess its easier because the jumps will already be setup. The 8ight-t's are pretty tough. I have seen them break a-arms, and hubs still.
A TT St-1 is still tougher. Never seen a broken hub or a-arm ever nor have any of my friends or me managed to figure out a way to break them, or anything as a matter of fact.
With the Hyper ST pro I haven't seen one or heard of one that broke. Maybe a hyper st RTR with a broken shock tower since they are plastic.

8ight RTR comes with a DX2 Spektrum Radio. Hyper ST RTR comes with a standard crystal radio. I like the Eight engine better then the macstar as well. If you need the Radio and engine I would go with the 8ight RTR hands down. If you don't then I would consider the Hyper ST RTR.

The Hyper ST RTR needs some upgrades if you will be running it hard. For one the RTR brake linkages SUCK!! They do not have adjusters and the brake setup is not like most other trucks with brake rods one above the other. You need to upgrade to the PRO setup and it is much better. Also the RTR steering knuckles are weak and break easily, upgrade to the PRO knuckles. The plastic shock towers seem to hold up and I would not worry about those too much but the PRO has THICK 5mm towers front and rear. The CRAPSTAR MOTOR SUCKS TOO!! Boat anchor IMO.

I still find it funny how the ST-1 seems to make it into every thread. I am going to start a flying thread here and I bet the ST-1 makes it in there too! LOL

In that case I would say Hyper ST Pro 100% Like I said earlier I had one and it is built like a TANK! 5mm shock towers and hinge pin holders, THICK front and rear lower arms. Thick axles and driveshafts. Also the Chassis braces are huge and it has s center one piece brace the chassis braces bolt too (PIC). front and rear bumpers and CNC aluminum steering knuckles along with CVD's all the way around. Very strong truck!

The 8ight is great, I have the Race Roller. But if you really want the Hyper ST, why not get the RTR since your pops wants you to get the RTR? Wouldn't you be happier with that? Everyone has their opinion on the motor and such, but for your first time out there, that isn't gonna matter much. Plus, the Hyper is cheaper...

Eh, the 8ight has a better radio but, but the servos are nothing to get excited about; probably no better than those in the Hyper. I race with a few guys that run the RTR 8ights and the servos are always the first thing to go; the motor goes shortly after. The motor is pretty good, but for just starting out I don't know how much that will matter unless the Mach 427 is easier to tune than the Hyper's MacStar. I'm just one of those guys that if I prefer one car over another I'm gonna get that car, nay-sayers be damned.
That's why I have an 8ight. It's the only one that appealed to me. I read the supposed horror stories about the throttle servos blowing up and I still bought it. Long story longer, performance-wise, especially for a beginner, you can't go wrong either way. So the decision for me would come down to which one appealed to me the most; unless the local hobby shop didn't stock parts, then I might go the other way.
