RE: Why truggy over buggy?
I have both and I race them. There are a few reasons why I prefer the truggy:
1. Maintenance - The truggy is tougher. Because of the bigger tires and higher suspension, all of the parts are less stressed. It bottoms out less, giving a smoother ride to all of the components.
2. Easier to drive - It almost drives itself. It stays firmly planted, even on a rutted track. Buggy driving is more technical.
3. More Fun - I get bigger air with my truggy. I can clear more obstacles. If I don't make it, it can handle my mis-judged landing.
4. Faster lap times - May not be true for everyone, but my truggy times are faster and more consistent.

Faster lap times?
I bet if you put the same driver around the same track in
both buggy and truggy, with the same .21 motor, the buggy
would win hands down. They're (buggies) quicker, lighter
and more nimble.
But back to the question.....Why truggy over buggy ?
Simple, truggies are cool, more sticker areas, bigger
paint schemes and bigger motors.

RE: Why truggy over buggy?
I have both and race both..I find buggies frustrating at times..and at other times a lot of fun to race..Depending on the condition of the track you can go just as fast or even faster with a buggy than a truggy..but as the track gets blown out the buggies start crashing..as far as the toughness..Buggies are tougher..think about it..same drivetrain, same thickness on chassis, shock towers, a arms..in fact shorter a arms, smaller tires..Why truggies are more fun..they are easier to drive fast..and they look cool
Cost: Buggies
Durability:Buggies
Fun factor: Truggies
See fun wins..lol

RE: Why truggy over buggy?
positives:
at most events there is no expert class, we are all thrown in the mix so you get to drive with pretty good drivers, and get spanked, still fun though.
truggys are more durable, not sure how a longer arm that fits into the same bulkhead is more durable, maybe flex.
they are TONS easier to drive over buggies,
just as fast,
way more forgiving,
easier to judge in the air,
stay cleaner,
tires last longer,
bigger tanks,
never traction roll,
and they can and do drive over buggies during practice.
negatives:
not as quick,
tires cost more,
slightly more aggressive driving, sloppy competition,
i've raced both and thats been my observations so far, i may have missed some but thats why i picked truggy over buggy to run one class.

I have both and I race both. I prefer my truggie hands down, it is so much easier to handle and it's not nearly as finicky as my buggies. Plus it looks so much cooler[8D]

Same drivetrain - No, it's not the same drivetrain. It may look the same, but buggies have taller gearing, which adds stress.
Chassis-Towers-Arms - Bigger and longer in a truggy. More flex, less breakage.
Tires - Bigger tires soak up more shock and protect the entire vehicle
One more thing not mentioned is shocks. Buggies have the shocks exposed, while truggies have the shocks under the body.
I've seen enough to know that truggies are most definitely more durable than buggies.

RE: Why truggy over buggy?
I built my truggy first and had no intentions of running buggy.
As luck would have it, I ended up buying an RC8, then a Losi 8ight for my Son.
We were running gas truck, but got bored with that pretty quick.
They are pretty fragile and when you crash a lot, gets pretty expensive.
My Son and I have a blast running buggy and as soon as the RC8T is released, we will be able to run truggy as well.
Why truggy over buggy? I always figured buggies were fragile like 1/10 scale stuff was.
Once I found out the similarities between buggy and truggy, I had to have both.
My goal is to have 2 RC8's and 2 RC8T's.
AE fanboy? Maybe........

Nice McFly, that's sounds awesome. I really think if you have
one you'll eventually have the other. Too much fun why limit it
to one type of vehicle !!??!!
After going to the buggy nats, I had to get a buggy to go with
my truggy.

I love my truggy, but also remember that youre asking this in the truggy section, probably you will probably get different anwsers in the buggy section.

RE: Why truggy over buggy?
Most of the guys here have both. I don't think posting in the buggy forum would make a bit of difference. I don't own a monster truck, but I look and post there.
