I bought an used Hellfire a few weeks ago, but the roto start is a mess. It is impossible to get my Hellfire started.
Have you seen this box before? What is it?
The roto start (motor) is broken.
Battery almost dead.
What can be done to repair it.
Should I buy a new one? If so where?
Can I get a used?
Links and advice would be helpful.

that is an ofna chrome top starter box. that is a great box. i use one but i am now upgrading to the ofna blue box.
and to the answer about you rotostart it should still be fine. we had an duratrax raze st and the roto start broke and we just used a bump box like that one and just ran it but i would see if you can find a back plate because you will have more power.

this is the only one i have found so far ill keep looking though for a cheaper one but ill keep looking and see what i can find. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXKJD9&P=7
a back plate has no gears in side of it which makes the rotational mass lighter which makes it easier for the engine to get up to top power.
ok i found this one and this is the one you will want if your going to use a bump/starter box. i know its an axial back plate but it also fits your engine. its still the original engine that came with hellfire, right?

when you take off the rotostart and all of the gears and all then put this in the place. make sure the piston in at the top of the stroke (closest to the glow plug) and when you put this back plate on the will be these indentions and like a cut you and you want that to face up so when the piston comes down it wont hit the plate. always remember to have the piston at the top of the stroke at anytime that you take the back plate off or putting it on or you will break your piston. that has happened to a ton of people.
i hope this helps you. and once you put this back plate on it should be a little faster off the bottom end and you might gain some more on top also, its not a huge difference but ever little bit counts IMO. you have a good truggy by the way. i almost got one back when i first started but went with a buggy instead.
Thank you, but I still dont understand what difference this make?
The gears you mentioned, is it on the car or the bump box?
Is it alot of hassle?

the gears are inside the the roto start part thats on the engine. at the back of the engine there is 4 screws that hold it on and if you take them out and pull that piece out you will see a few gears or a fan looking thing. you just pull those out and you will see the rod and crank and the inside of the engine. once you see that then you will be able to put that back plate on that i showed in the last post. and like i said in the last post make sure the piston is at the top of the stroke. also there might be a spacer between the engine mount the motor and if there is you will have to take the spacers out so that the fly wheel can be at the right height for the bump/starter box.
if you are close to a track and you dont race you could just go and hang out you will learn so much just listening and talking to people even if you do not plan on racing its always good to go whenever you can just to learn. you can bring your truggy and when you start talking to someone you usually can get them to show you stuff to do to your truggy.
but i will look for a diagram to show you what the difference between the two different types of back plate.
Sorry, I can't see/reed the diagrams. Is it just me?
I see alot of videos where people use a "drill roto start" on Youtube, not the box. Can it be used on the Hellfire?
Anyway, here is the engine:

thats a nice looking truggy u have there. i think u should get a new battery for your box and u will be fine. that box is a starter / bump box not a roto start. there should be a screw on the top plate of that box. when u find it just take it out and u should be able to open the box. and u will see the battery in there. either order that battery onlien or go to the local hobby shop and get a new one OR if that box has leads on the side u can hook it up to a car battery which is alot better IMO. hope i helped a lil bit
