my point is only that if you spend 600+$ on a RTR you should at least be able to break-in the engine before the servo takes a huge dump!:D[:'(]

My servo did the same thing. I race my Hellfire and also had problems with the shock towers. I got the carbon fiber shock towers and added the mugen wing kit to it. So far have not had another problem with it.

I had to chime in here cause this is getting unfunny.

I've been racing MT's for 6 years and have had every major release from the top players. There is no way the manufacturers could put to electronics in RTR and keep the cost attractive. As said, racers usually swap the electoronics out for their favorites anyway.

Servos going south soon into you owning the trucks are warranty issues and HPI and their distributors over the years have been pretty good whenever I've had to turn to them. These are machines by the way and somethings get through quality control sometimes. Every truck I've ever bought has had some issue or another, it's just a fact that they won't catch everything we may uncover.

If one lets that point of a week servo put them off a vehicle then they aren't real enthusiast of the hobby, I consider them 'hangers on' or 'wanna be's' and many have unrealistic expectations and don't understand what it takes to be apart of what's going on. RTR's have there place and if you quickly do the maths, by the time you've bought a kit and put your own electronics in plus engine and pipe, you're way over 600 bucks.

This is all about expectations and if they're realistic and the response from distributors and manufacturers when we experience problems.

no see thats where you are wrong yes i did get it for free. when youve put thousands into this industrie youll probably get something in return but besides that i have alraedy put well lets just asy about another thosand into my hell fire heres what i got jp moded 21 v spec, cf towers, nubzs, ko propo 2366ics sterring, hitec 5998tg throttle, spektrum dx3(reciver) , mugen wing mount, hpi wing, and plan on putting alot more into it so heres my piont ya not everyone has money - by the way im not rich my self either its called money managment. but with all do respect we all need to give our all to this industry and stop complaining how nothin is perfect im sure we all have great ideas on things that would help fellow rc'ers but we all dont step out on the line and expose our ideas so check this out work hard drive hard and let stuff be difficult and youll get knowhere in rc'ing none of this post is intended to piss anyone off its just a little word of advice

This is what I find astounding. Just because someone has a different point of view is no reason to get all fired up. We'll all have different experiences and what works for one, might not work for anyone else. Some of us have been in the hobby/sport for years and others for a short period of time and as said some don't have a lot of money to be throwing at their (as my wife calls it) toy. When we're giving advise we should always keep that in mind and also remember that sometimes how we word things can come across wrongly and there's simply no reason dis' anyone. There is a wealth of experience here and people should feel free to share without somone trying to rip there experience apart without qualification or justification.

Coming here is meant to be enjoyable, isn't it?

i put the nova rossie rex 258 in the hellfire WOW.
now when i crack the throttle wide open the tires get bigger and look like doughnuts.
broke the pin that goes in the front diff today.
quite a while ago i broke the front a arm but as useual lhd did not have a front arm.
i glued the broken one back together but i know when i take the first jump it will be history.
when i got a set of a arms from the lhd there was two rear arms in the bag.
i took one of the rear a arms and re drilled it to fit the front and put it on the front where the broken one was.
should be interesting.
i sure wish hpi would get off there lazy butts and ger some of the a arms to our lhd so we can play some more.
Dirby.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

That is good news because I just purchased those parts as well as a great metal gear servo. Thanks for the info!!!:D:D

and to the response to the "wanna be" comment I would like to say that as a long time Nitro Racer I was letting new buyers know what to expect so maybe they could order another servo at the same time as their RTR and not have to worry about that same issue!:D

PS does anyone have any setup they would like to share or swap with me, I am always looking for a different perspective?

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

I have the HPI Hellfire. I got it just as they came out. I have also had a few problems with mine. I have upgraded the shock tower to CF (bent the stock one the first day out) add the Mugen wing kit, Upgraded the steering servo (broke that the first day out also) upgraded to nubs and Crime fighters. Here is the next problem you may find. Bending the front lower suspension mount rear. If you come down hard you can bend it or break the lower a arm. I found that if you take 2 of them (back to back) and run a longer screw (or nut and bolt) you will have a much stronger front end. Hope this helps anyone out racing or bashing the hellfire.

Nitro - I know that the direct replacement rotostart for the Savage works. Any HPI .21 and, over motor can use the roto start. As far as shock towers go the CF ones are lighter but if they break they are junk, the aluminum ones can be bent back.

thanks for the help. is this the rotostart part I'll need

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=HPIG7127&P=K

I seen some carbon parts on ebay are those any good?? Or should I wait for HPI to make some.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

yeah, that roto start backplate is the one for the HPI .28 engine. The 4.6cc is another way to say .28ci.

And, like i said - CF will save you a few grams here and, there. I imagine the CF parts are only as good as the makers reputation. I personally stay away from high dollar parts unless they are a true performance enhancement. Lets say you are all CF'd out and, you save a few ounces - is that going to be the decifering factor on if you win the drag race to the finishline??? I'd bet a broken A-Arm, ball joint/tierod, C-hub or, a moving part (gears) would be more likely to end your race early than a shock tower or, radio tray being a little bent. In my eyes = a top notch Radio, Servos, Tires, Suspension Setup and, most of all; Superior Driving Skills will play a much bigger role into the equation on if your the top dog at the track!!!

carbon fiber parts look real cool but they do not hold up.
they are very brittle.
yes carbon fiber is very strong but it is very brittle and dosen't bend.
i used carbon fiber a lot when i was building free flight models.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Ive had 1 issue with the carbon parts, and all of this under extreme racing conditions.
If your going to bash nothing will hold up and will eventually break as far as drivline parts.
I personally highly reccomend extremes parts for the carbon. I currently run BCEs billet parts with a CF rear tower. I will be getting the updated version of BCE;s towers soon and will soon replace the CF tower, but untill then, its done its job well and will continue to do so.

As for top plate, extreme revised top plate is pure strength.

Xtreme racing's Carbon top plate looks kind of weak with all those holes in it. Speed Tech has a nice looking one and its 3mm. Are Golden Horizon's parts the same as Hot Racing they sure look alike. When are HPI billet parts going to be available??

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

The newer update top plate by xtreme is 3.25mm thick. Like I said, I run mine under race conditions, sure all things are possible but it has held up well.

No the GH and HR parts are not the same. I dont know much about the HR parts but seberal have reported them being inferior grade material. I cant honeslty say. I do know and can backup GH products. Very high quality.

Your right the GH parts look more finished then the hot racing parts. I can't seem to find the Xtreme top plate with that thickness. On ebay I only see 2mm and 2.5mm. Do they have a website? How have your GH parts improved the feel of the hellfire??

Bearings fit like they suppose to,takes the slop out there. The steering and stability has changed completly for the better.
