junk the factory differential, there poor quality, trade up to hpi racing hot bodies part# hbc8178 there hardened and helical cut, they handle the power of my modified nova rossi motor with no problems, prior to finding these I tried different weight oils, shiming, teflon grease, and still broke diffs in two laps after installing the nova rossi motor, keep the 7000 wt oil in the center diff!! min!! I run 10000 wt and no more gear problems

I agree!

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Hello there,

I'm plenty satisfied of my HF, still pretty stock.
I did the 4.6 mod but it didn't go as good as I expected, after the 3rd tank, the piston blocked into the sleeve...I don't get it...after 3 tanks...It had to explode bij the first tank if I screwed up the engine with the mod.

Wel, I put a new Nosram RS-28rs with 15t clutchbell and my friend, all I can say is that there is no comparison possible ! That thing flies !!!!:D:D

Otherwise, I just put 10.000 ofna in center diff and RB metal airfilter and rear wing mount.

ps : I love it ! (even I won't race it)

So, that Diff just plugs right in huh? Man, thats great, thanks. Is the Integy hardened diff case just as good a choice?
I was thinking about a clutch today, Fioroni came up. And then Flywheel came up. I wonder if these things come with
the HFSS? I bet a lightweight flywheel would kick it.

Ya they just drop in, I don't know why you would spend extra for diff case! Its not required and just adds weight!! Butt as always its your call based on want you want. Just remeber excess weight will cost you lap times, good luck!!

I think you hit the mark square on the head, Lets remember this vehicle will bring a lot of people into the sport that have been introduced via the basher monster truck, realized theres more to it then tried to move foreword!! Such as I!! These are growing pains that they must endure!!

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

I will use the fatory diffs until i have a need but I want a fiorino twin turbo clutch!
I got ring diff braces to keep the bearing area from gapping under load. Im kind of a newbie but this is my second hellfire (Not shipped yet). Ill be racing it too.
I heard youll need diff shims to stop the play in that Lightning Diff front to back if you choose to install it.

if you didnt shim them you better check the backlash and shim so it is minimal

chickenfarmer3 08-02-2006 07:27 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

for your info yes i have done this i've had a hellfire and can tell you anything you need to know about it, allthough it sounds like you already know everything. and i do remember its an HPI product thats why i sold it and bought a KYOSHO....

technoracer 08-02-2006 07:30 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

sounds like you give up easyly!! good luck! str has problems as well.... look foreward to seeing you at the track

chickenfarmer3 08-02-2006 07:35 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

i guess, if you say so. i had my hellfire for 4 months, of hassels and headaches sell it buy my str and can go way faster, less breakage, more product support. and every car or truck will have their flaws you just have to go what works best for you, if its the hellfire your right i would look foreward to turning inside of you.

technoracer 08-02-2006 07:37 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

turning inside is great!! I however love oversteer... outside line leads to the finish line

technoracer 08-02-2006 07:39 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

use your imagination

technoracer 08-02-2006 08:12 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Look if the str works for you thats great!! I however see lots of potential in the Hellfire, both positive and negative, once I have repaired all the design flaws I can work on the positives, kick up, multible" A" arm changes.. theres lots of room to experment!! I like to race almost as much as I like to build.. the STR leaves one with only one position for all, and I repeat.. all A arm set ups....... you can only wonder whats outside the box!! Its a great product!! the STR that is, works for guys that !! well we could view this from several ways ..... however lets say have more time to race than work on set ups... ?? fair! some of us chose to work our own paths !! off the shelf or what everyone says is good isn't good enough!!, I however long to see the best in everthing I do... Therefore the hellfire provides the path to experiment!! Not just run someone elses set up!! And yes I have a great imagination,, therefore I wonder chickenfarmer!!

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

I've had my ST-R for a few months now and its been very reliable. The only issue they have is shimming of the diff. You need to check the diffs after about half-a-gallon, then re-shim them. About a half hour per diff, so an hour and you're done!

I've not had to replace anything on my ST-R due to a design flaw....

Its been very good to me!

chickenfarmer3 08-02-2006 08:24 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

thats good for you. i dont come on here to argue with punk a** kids like you when i was just trying to help you out so you aren't buying 2 more sets of those lsp gears.
