I have the truck and think it's a lot better then some people give it credit for. The bean counters at HPI tried to screw it up though and there are some anoying problems. The scews that come with it are junk very soft and the heads strip easy even with good tools. The rubber orings in the diffs are too hard and don't seal very well and the metal gascuts for the diffs leak like sieves. I think if anyone building an SS replaces these items during the build they'll havea very nice truggy.

I agree I repaced them with (diff gaskets) koyosho paper gaskets and koyosho orings, as for the screws I have to order a hd screw set--any sugestions?
Damageincorperated Good luck on the build, when you get to the shock build use needle nose pliers with heat shrink tube shrunk onto the tips to hold the shock shaft in place while installing the ball ends, so they will not mar/scratch the shaft and cause it to damage the internal o-rings and leak later (much better than useing tape like the instructions say) |

there are flats on the shaft to let you use a wrench to hold the shaft.

Yes there is but be really carefull not to scratch the finish it could cause a leak and o-ring failure later on.

I used the ofna diff gaskets haven't found any new orings yet. I think tonys scews makes a complete set of screws for the hellfire haven't heard of anyone else.

Scratch that they where mugen seiki diff gaskets part # c0257 (just looked at the old package)
The o-rings where koyosho and I don't have the package so I can't give the part # got them from a friend. |

that is the right part number on the diff rings..... KY00RG06 ,..... never had a leak in over a year now

Actually it is flourescent orange with a heavy backing (fade to rear) of metalic red then backed with indy silver to give it a deep orange/red metalic flake in front and a bright orange matalic in the rear, with metalic red faded into flourescent yellow flames, looks alot better in person with better light. I messed up on the front window though...thats what you get with spray cans and only the 4th body I've ever painted. |

blew up the rear diff (spider gears) today while running about a half gallon at the track. I should have took it easy and broke in the gears, but then again it seems my mesh was off a little anyways.
Any suggestions on a hardened gear setup? Koyosho? Hot Bodies? Mugen? Has anyone tried them with sucess? |

I'm breaking in an axial 32 in my hellfire and have been unable to get it to idle slow enough as to not engage the clutch, I took it to my lhs for help and they got it idling a lot slower then I was able, but the clutch still engages, the guy who helped me said to get stronger clutch springs, can anyone recommend a set for me? They had a set of XTM springs there, the guy said they were the strongest springs anyone makes, should I get these?

I would try to reset the carb opening to @1mm, and check the 3rd needle on the same side as the high speed needle (right below it in the houseing) and see if it is flush. Check for air leaks at back plate and carb--needles and base of brass fitting on the high speed needle. That is where I found a large air leak on my axial 28

The carb is set at 1mm. When you say 3rd needle do you mean the mid-range needle? If so then that is completely flush, How do I check for air leaks? Do I just start it an put a finger by the back plate and carb?

Get a can of WD40 and spray a base of carb and back plate carb needles. If engine rev's higher than that would mean that there is an engine leak... Test each place seperately.( Motor must be running obvioulsly)

I'm not really comfortable spraying wd-40 on my brand new r/c, besides I don't think I have any at the moment, I found another method online (http://www.*********.org/engine-tuning.htm) I'll try this for now, and see if I can find any leaks.
