RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

aight, having a little trouble here... i just got a hpi k5.9 engine for my hellfire, and i'm trying to take the carb off to switch it 180 degrees. i took that screw out of the lock pin, but i can't get the pin out therefore i can't get the carb off the crankcase. anybody have any tips about how to get that pin off? i don't know if i should push or pull it or twist it or what

thx

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

ok nvm... i'm dumb... i threaded the screw in the other side of the pin and then pulled and magic it came out

Watch the mid range needle dosent loosen and fall out, very common problem with the k4.6.

My hellfire is pretty much stock except for the diff fluid. What gearing are you guys running that you are able to get the truck to wheelie?
Thanks

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

You wont wheelie like an MT with a truggy due to the 3 diffs but if you have extra thick centre diff oil it will help lift the front but you will lose turning ability.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

thanks stuss. I realize that with the center diff, but how these trucks wheelying in these videos? Like the brushless one? Is the center diff locked?

My Hellfire doesn't wheelie much either, but my Savage X sure does. I got my Hellfire and Savage X used so I'm not real sure what the viscosities are in the differentials on either vehicle.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

There is no fluid in the diffs on the savage. I put thicker fluid in my hellfire diffs, but I think I still need to go a thicker to prevent some of the front wheel spin.
I have an LRP .28 in my Savage and it I get on it hard it will flip right over.

LOL! I guess you can tell how much maintenance I've done on the Savage. I figured the diffs on the Savage were set up the same as the Hellfire.

My kids think it's pretty cool that the Savage can do back wheelies (acceleration) and front wheelies (braking). But the Hellfire can corner soooo much better than the Savage.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

You can add fluid to the diffs on the savage but most guys dont seem to. And the way the diff case is made the bottom skid plate covers the gears so its not completely sealed. I believe the diff cups seal though.
The cornering is partly from the center diff but mostly from the wider stance and the lower center of gravity.

I would check out the diffs to make sure all the gears are in good shape.

Check yor diffs, hold the spur tight as you roll the truggy along,if the wheels dont roll yor diffs are probably ok, if the diffs click and the wheels roll they mite be worn.
If its the rtr the braces bend easy, the shock towers bend easy and the plastic shock caps break easily. The brake dics wear out quick too. The ss is alot tougher.

I just took out my os 28 from my HF and put in my old lrp spec 3 28 for a change. Man, the lrp has some balls. Probably not the top end but just as much or more bottom end.

WOW ! What pipe do you run on the OS 28 ?

You are going to need a new back plate and I possibly a new crankshaft. The bump start crankshafts dont usually have the slot thats need to be spun by the pull start or roto start. I hope that made sense. You need to look at the manual for the losi engine and see what the crankshaft looks like.
Have you been using it with a starter box?

Running a tt2035 and short manifold. I think the short manifold takes a liitle grunt away from the os but it does improve the top.
LOL, i just remembered i had a 17 t cb on the os and only a 14 t cb on the lrp. That explains the bottom end difference.
But, i was still very impressed with the grunt of the lrp.
