i got the cen diff from cen gst

i just took the complete diff and pinion and swapped them over to the hellfire diff casing the cool thing is that the cen dogbone cups fit the hellfire dogbones so i did not even have to open the diff itself. just an easy swap over:D

it just needs a little bit of shimming and thats it

pictures on page 59

Whats the acceleration and top speed difference with the cen diffs compared to stock?

Mr snuggles 03-30-2009 11:06 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Code:

ooooh i cant answer that one as i was brushless before i did the swap

eeeh i should rather say i had to do the swap because i had brushless

i think the gearing will be similar to going two teeth bigger on the cb but i cant really say as i have forgotten the math on it

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Did you notice a difference though since the tooth counts are different?

Mr snuggles 03-30-2009 11:14 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

just the higher gearing and the lack of diff problems:)

well i had seen that one. but the disc inside the pull start looks different. there more holes and notches in it that look like the cord should route through.

what are the aluminum washers that go between the diff cup and ring gear for? seen some pictures of a diff on page 55 or 56 with the washers on the diff cup but my hellfire diffs don't have them.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Those are the shims to make sure the diff and pinion mesh properly

sup guys. got some question. is the k4.6 HO worth fixing or should i go with another engine? got this used hellfire that had lost all compression and was looking into having the sleeve pinched. or even going with a new piston and sleeve. i do plan on racing in the truggy class at my track and i can go as large as a .32 engine. but money is an issue...

also what weight oil are you racers using in you shocks? 20wt comes in the stock shock. there was no oil in them so i added the thickest i had, 70wt. thanks peace

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

It really depends on how much its going to cost to repair it compared to replacing it.
The shock oil is going to hinge on the type of track you race on. A bumpy track would benefit from a slightly lighter oil so it doesnt bounce as much. If the track has a lot of straight runs you can go with a little heavier oil. But its really going to depend on your driving style

for a new piston/sleeve i should be spending $70-80. the pinching i found to be in the $40 range.

thanks that makes scents about the shock oil. kinda smooth track, some huge jump and rhythm section.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

So around $80 to rebuild or you can pick up something faster like a Dynamite .28 for about $30 more. ..

Get another engine. The k4.6ho isnt worth fixing. For a bit more $ you can find a decent engine that will be better than the k4.6.

why do you say it's not worth it? i seen you have an o.s in your hellfire. so what made you decide to upgrade? thanks

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

The OS or LRP engines are great for a truggy. They have a lot of HP and great RPM's. If you watch ebay you can usually pick one up at a decent price.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

I went from the k4.6ho to the lrp 28 to the os28. Each was an upgrade in quality and power. The k4.6ho lasted many gals and i was happy with it. Problems were leaky front bearing, mid range needle falls out and i eventually broke the crank tightening the flywheel nut to much. It did push the HF good though.
The lrp28 is a great engine and better all round than the k4.6. Chews thru the juice though. The os is the top of the line 28 but still can have bearing problems and is expensive, but man it flys!
I have an sts 5 port 28 which i havent broken in yet. They are very cheap and make gobs of power but can be of poor quality internally.
The are many good mills available for less $ than the k4.6. Let us no how you go.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

so the o.s 30vg has three different version. do they share the same mounting position using the hellfire mounts? thanks
