RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

What is a nice competition wheel and tire to slap on for a packed dirt track?
Im looking at other engine options as well as a rear wing. If anyone know what wing will fit and would be a good choice, i would appreciate the opinion.

This is for my hellfire

I'm here in the UK, the CF parts available now (are they strong enough?) are in the US, I had mine on the car before they were for sale, it cost me a lot less anyway, I get to have them first and test them first..

The Mugan MBX5 wing fits with additional holes drilled in the rear tower.. I run HPI Nubz on the HF, with good grip on dry mud loose top, & on astro with a sand covering..

Mine arrived at the shop early to day. I spent a good three hours just kinda looking and inspecting all the little things about this truck that might need a little help to make it a winner. Front end is a little bit sloppy for my taste but we can fix that. LSP turnbuckle ends look to fit and should help with some of the left to right slop. Seems lke the front carrier hole that the pin rides on is oversived alowing some of the walking effect that i see. should be able to find slightly large diamneter pin easily. Carrier has some back and forth travel as well. XRAY shock kit spacer look like the ticket to fixxin that. Want to check out side diameter of front wheel bearings to compare them to other insteead of shimming. Steerin will need to be shimmed up also to remove more slop. Will for sure be making a new rear pin holder. Motor and ppie along with servos radio charger air filter tires and rims all made there way on to EBAY.

I am very glad that we are not hearing about broke arms carriers diff cases spur gears flywheels shock caps shock ends shock shafts bent chassis bent radio trays bad diff gears crappy breaks blown cvds shreaded drive cups broke turn buckles crappy screws color disforming chassis(CRT) and all the other things that could be happing with a new kit.

Overall i think this truck has good potential

will be adding os v-spev t 2050 pipe two jr 8800 servos and new hot bodies tires with proline hard foams spectrum reciever and cf shock towers chassis brace and center diff braces.

ANY BODY GOT ANY SET UP HELP OR FOUND SOMETHING THAT SEEMS TO BE WORKING as far as diffs shock oils

also if ofna rear sprins a working then you can also use xray and mugen so there should be no problem findin the right spring set up

Will all of what you mentioned bolt right up? or will modification be needed?

Please check post on page 6 for link to first part of Mod..

Right then folks, I have finally keyed this infamous HF brace to the chassis, its pretty easy job if you have the tools, just take the time to get the holes right. The easiest way to get to this section of chassis is to remove all bolts from underside of chassis only leaving the engine plate & exhaust mount still attached.

I used a multi-speed hand drill, HSS drill bit 3mm on the crease line of the brace. Fron the top of the brace start the holes of with a slow setting on the drill and make sure the holes don't go south!!

Then countersink the two holes on the underside of chassis for 2 x M3 x 20mm bolts to sit in and bolt down using 2 x M3 locking nuts & a washer, jobs good this is by far the strongest fix for this issue, I would imagine now only the plastic arms will rip of with a heavy hit, cheaper and quicker to replace at trackside... I think there is enough room for this mod to be continued to the rear front brace for the ultimate in strength!

Great Job!!!

I think you could probly do away with the second brace and just weld a couple of alluminum tabs to the chassis right behind the hinge brace or snugged up as close to it as possible, and then any backward force would be stopped. But I know too that not everyone has a Hi Feq. Welder. Tig welder or whatever else you want to call it. But i think it would be pretty easy to do.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Ya that's a great fix. I'm going to bolt some aluminum to the chasis against it to stop it from bending.

are the braces solid enough to tap and die or do you need to use nuts to anchor. everything in rc is a mod

set up info anyone

what kind of surfave are you driving on? the best way to set up it trial and error...you might like the feel of different oil waits...and your friend may like them different it really depends on your driving style...just get a bunch of different oil waits and try different combonations out.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

----------------am new to truggie but not rc---------------------
wow................ i spent the day at the shop again yesterday this time we took a closer look at the rear end of the hellfire. it is still undriven and the rear wheel bearings have more play in them then my old hyper 7 buggie. that can't be good you would never hold any type of camber in the rear or toe in..................is any one else as slopy as mine...................i've never owned hpi or hb products before. realy the bearing walks all over inside the carrier there is no chance off these bearings lasting or the hub carrier. every thing looks so we planned out as far a design of the parts but need diffrent tolerances and better QC.

as far as the chassis goes so far F&*()) outstanding. the lightnings chassic flexs like a girl not the HELLFIRE super solid

I have a feeling that my hellfire will soon have many xray and kyosho parts on it------------it needs it.

lucky for I --------got a kit version for under 300 dollars

HOW------ebay motor (bad bearing) ebay radio/ servos(don't need) ebay tires(crap foams) charger tool kit pipe body all gone tahnks to ebay and work for a lhs

so far this truck gets a B

but i plan on making it be a A+

ok i installed a 16t clutch bell wow! awesome after 1 tank i seemed to strip the spru gear. i set it on the tighter side any tips on not stripping another one thanks

crazysavage 02-11-2006 06:55 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Sounds like your engine shifted or your mesh was not set properly. How do you set your gear mesh?

mmduc 02-11-2006 08:10 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

thats what im askin how to set the gear mesh............ i set it on the tight side as i was told wiped out the spur gear....... but, with the 16t cb wow this thing is awesome! thanks for anyone who can help me set the mesh right

desdad 02-11-2006 11:10 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

to set the gear mesh use a small piece of note book papaer like 3/4 x 4-5 inches long fold over length wise then run the paper through the gears apply solid even presure to the gears using the head of the motor ( make sure the motor is straight ) then thighten screws--loose gear mesh seems better

started hacking away at the hellfire last night while havin a few bud lights at the shop last night. simple fix to tighten up front end.........had a titainium arm pin from a revo laying around hacked it in half and replaced front suspension pins on hell fire. stock pin .296mm lunsford revo pin .316 realy it took away like 80 % of the front end slop and no binding east fix

replaced rear hub carriers on hell fire with xray xb8 uprights.............the bearing in the stock carriers actualy was so sloppy that the back bearings fell out when turnd over. have to remove about 1/16 of inch on the back(inside) bearing set of new carrier not to hard of a job just take your time not to go to far slop gone plus more upper arm positions and another hole on bottom of carrier to help with role center....................................

i belive that replacing the shock caps and shock ends would be a great idea but not needed

this is a good truck i have had mine on display at our store and now we have four guys that are ordering one. therei s things that nneed to be improved on but is'nt there always

truck rating after replace items listed above B+

i'll try and get to the steering area of the truck later this week
