RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I have one, and am having some trouble breaking in my new XTM .28 engine. :( Here are some pics of mine and I really like it when it's running properly, I've been having some extremely difficult "first nitro truck" problems:

Nice ride. Looks like you've installed the must have's (arms and Dadders braces). What's the engine problem?

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

You need the RC Visions hinge pin retainers.

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

What's the engine problem?
The enigne problem is that my pull start just busted off. I'm using a different break in method than what says to be done in the manual. Anyway, I got through the first step of my break in, then when I went to start the truck to begin the second step (running tanks by just "blipping" the throttle), I was pulling the pull start, and the handle flew off into my hands. Also, the truck can't withstand any throttle usage, or else it dies out on me. I think it was because of the temps I was running in, I'm gonna have to wait until it gets a little cooler so I can finish my break in. But right now I just need to focus on getting some new pull starts. If you think you can help me, ask me any further questions.

You need the RC Visions hinge pin retainers.
I know, but they are really expensive for me. ($110) I'm only a teenager, and have some hard times pulling in the money, but trust me, HPR are defintely on my "Wish List" along with some other items too. Thanks for the comments guys!

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

Another pullstart will be about $10-$20 on Ebay. The pin retainers are high on my list also, but you should be able too run pretty hard without them for now. It also sounds like your fuel mixture is too rich.

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

The fuel mixture has to be rich because I'm breaking in the new engine, it comes very rich from the factory. I'm gonna try to get a pull start today, so I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

It should be rich, but not so rich that it shuts down when the throttle is applied.

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I actually just talked to XTM Customer Service yesterday, and he said if it has trouble transitioning from idle to throttle, then I need to lean the low speed needle valve 1/2 turn. I had this same problem with my 24.7 break in, I don't know why I just didn't turn the LSN, before my pull start broke. However, I should get back to breakin in this weekend, I missed my chance to run my truck on the fourth. [&o] I'm happy that everything is gonna go smooth now though. [&:]

Good to hear that you've got the answer to your problem [8D]. Does anyone know of a lighter set of wheels? I just got a set of 40 size moabs but I don't want to mount them on te stock rims.

hey Mammoth ST owners my friend might be getting one and wants to know if there are any problems when it comes out of the box and is there anything that needs to be upgraded right away or any replaced or added

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I take it your friend is talking about getting the original Mammoth ST? because the ST Pro Kit is going to be released soon. But for the regular one, I would definately buy some chassis braces from www.dadders.net to dramatically reduce chassis flex. Another vital upgrade would have to be a rechargeable receiver pack. Then, if you want aluminum arms, I would take a look at www.bigairproducts.com, they're expensive but worth it. Next, go to www.rcvisions.net for a 4 set of hinge pin retainers. From there, you can look into a new radio/engine/carbon fiber parts if you plan on racing in the future. I'd definately say that the first two things I mentioned (the www.dadders.net chassis braces and rechargeable receiver pack from www.hobbypeople.net) would be very good to purchase. There may be more things, but I might be forgetting some stuff. If you have any questions, I'll answer them to the best of my ability or someone else may know. Good luck to your friend!

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

what does the pro kit come with because i am sure he would want to know. also someone told me that you need to get a center differentail kit of it becasue if the truck is in the air it will strip gears if the throttel is applied.

ssj2 07-06-2006 09:03 PM

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

The Pro Kit is going to be more money, and it's a kit so he has to build it. It doesn't come with tires or an engine/tuned pipe system. However, it does have a wing and center differential stock. I would recommend the Mammoth ST if this is going to be your friend's first nitro truck, just because you would need to spend more money buying the Pro. (unless he has enough money to buy the pro) A center differential is also high up on the "To Do" list for upgrades for the ST. That's true, if you do jump and land wrong, you'll strip that tranny bad. And also, with the center diff, ($50 by the way) you don't need to worry about shift point adjustments, and you'll be able to race in the truggy class. Like I said, feel free to ask questions, I'm glad I can help your friend out.

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

Also, you could look at my list of upgrades in my personal "My Models". I listed all the upgrades i have installed on my truck, a fuel filter wouldn't be a bad idea either for your friend, just check out my list. ;)

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

he is know looking into the st pro kit because he likes to build kits. do you have any pictures i can show him. and can the st pro kit take .21 buggy engines

ssj2 07-06-2006 10:04 PM

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I do have some pictures of the pro kit, but its not released yet. Nobody is certain on the release date, but it shouldn't be forever. Here's the link of pics from the XTM forums: http://globalservices.globalhobby.co...hlight=#152426
A .21 shouldn't be bad considering that the 24.7 is a .21 and it comes on the original ST, but you can go for something bigger. I have the XTM .28, and also, you're gonna need radio gear (servos, transmitter, receiver, etc.), it can turn into a costly project. About a pipe, it depends on what engine you have, the STS .28 is a very popular engine in ST's and R9 suggests getting the STS pipe or I've heard a JP-1. Again, feel free to ask questions, and good luck!

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

What's the price looking like for the Pro kit?

ssj2 07-07-2006 08:36 AM

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

The answer to the pricing can be found at www.hobbypeople.net, and their pricing it at $449.99. (That's without tires, transmitter/receiver, servos, engine, and tuned pipe) However, it does feature a stock wing and center differential, maybe some more that I don't know too.

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

I have to say I haven`t been much of a XTM fan . But the Mamoth st pro looks sweet!! I might just have to try one out . I currently have a LSP , how does the Mamoth compare to the CRT and LSP ?

ssj2 07-07-2006 09:30 AM

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

How do they compare? Well, I'll try to answer this to the best of my ability. First, there is an optional center diff (comes standard in the Pro Kit) which makes the Mammoth a truggy then, along with the low center of gravity and "wide stance" look. The original Mammoth ST isn't as high of quality as the LSP or CRT stock, however, there are plenty of custom upgrades being made for Mammoth ST owners. (also for the Mammoth ST Pro) I'm not sure on the release date, but it shouldn't be too long. Dawman, sorry I could only give you kind of obvious similarities, but I'm doin my best to try and help you out. I say get the Pro Kit, but some nice racing tires, a high quality radio, and a racing quality engine/tuned pipe combonation and hit the track!

Dawman 07-07-2006 09:39 AM

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

If I buy one I will wait for the Pro kit . I run Spektrum in all my rc so I have the radio covered . I have a bunch of 40 series wheels and tires from previous trucks and tuned pipes for spares for my buggies . The only thing I really need is to buy some engines as a few of my current engines are running towrds the end . I have so many rcs it`s hard to keep up with them all . Hopefully the pro kit will be released soon .

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

That's good to hear for you, sounds like you got it down. I run Spektrum too, and at least you don't need to spend as much money as the average person would buying the pro kit as their first truck. Have fun and good luck Dawman! (you live in IL, so do I)

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

this may be a stupid but does anyone kno if a trx 3.3 could fit in a mammoth ST?

nitrohead5300 07-10-2006 08:17 AM

RE: Can I Have an official Mammoth ST thread?

RJ123 I would not advise putting that motor in a truck of this size the 3.3 is a small block. A good choice would be a novarossi .28 , sirio .30 or a rb offroad motor .21-.28 size.
