High idle problem

Have a rossi 528x that wont idle down. I turn idle secrew down but still high. Temp were 240 and ran great just wont idle right. Im thinkin it mite be an air leak. Any other thoughts ?

that or your linkages and epa isnt set right

RE: High idle problem

Nah all thats is done that was the first thing I checked. Carb can completely closed and still idles high as hell lol...

thanks do you have a return spring ??

RE: High idle problem

Does it idle real high after a high speed run then eventually idle down?
That could be a lean high speed,

How much space is there between the slide and the inside of the carb? should be about the width of a credit card or so.

If thats set right, its gotta be your tune,

You could have used the low speed needle at one point to compensate for an incorrect idle? or vice versa.

Id check the gap,

Then reset my needles and tune the high speed then the low speed.

RE: High idle problem

No linkage workin great. Can put my vspec on there and it idles just fine.

RE: High idle problem

Yea the gap looks good. Check the low speed needle to and it didnt change anything. Wouldnt an air leak make it idle high ?

RE: High idle problem

hum it might be your low speed that has some to do with your idle also try riching it up and hour and riching up your idle 4 hours

RE: High idle problem

Aight thanks for the info will give it a try tomarrow

no problem i had trouble with that on my sportworks .26 v2 and i riched up the low speed and it went down

RE: High idle problem

Yea i still amazed on how much power this motor has lol

rebelracer246 06-26-2008 06:44 PM

RE: High idle problem

yep they have power but sometime they can be hard to tune lol

Jamie22 06-26-2008 06:47 PM

RE: High idle problem

Yea and hard to keep the tires mounted on

rebelracer246 06-26-2008 06:49 PM

RE: High idle problem

ya thats why you richin the high speed so you can keep them mounted lol

Yes, give the low end a few hours, it will bring the idel down. Dont run it to lean on the low end, bad things happen to a nitro engine when the low ends to lean.

Well got to run the truggy yesterday took the low end back out to factory specs and still idles high

Why dont you try to idle your motor, then try to push the carb closed with your finger. If it idles down when you manually push it in, then I'd say linkage, EPA's. Peace.

Almost new motor.... Tried my finger but its closed all the way and still idles high

RE: High idle problem

The only other thing it can be is an air leak then, could be the back plate etc.

RE: High idle problem

Make sure all your needles are set to factory settings including your idle needle. also apply carb sealant to carb rim as well as backplate area. based on what you said " I pushed the throttle link all the way in" makes me believe your idle pin is not extended far enough in your venturi area to stop it from completely closing thus you are shutting out all air entry into your engine.

Hey I just looked at what you were saying " still idles HIGH"... this is a correction to my earlier response. You may want to first apply carb sealant to eliminate any possible air leaks both on the carb as well as the back plate. However, it almost sounds like your engine may be dirty on inside. I know you said this was a new engine. It may have shavings inside that you need to clean. Since it is new I doubt that you have a piston/sleeve compression issue. Just make sure when you finish running your RC you always turn your flywheel to get your Piston at BDC(bottom dead center) so that you do not stretch your sleeve and loose your compression. Really sounds like an air leak though but I would probably break the engine down and clean it with denatured alcohol and relubricate the internals to be on the safe side.
