Default Prop Sizes???

I'm getting ready to fly my TF Corsair 60 gold edition and wondering what would be the best prop to use. I have a 13x6 and a 14x8.The plane comes in at 9 pounds, and I have a super tiger G90 on it. So what's the best prop to go with? Onthe Corsair box it says with the super tiger engine to use a 13x8 or 14x6 and nobody in town has oneeither size. also I can never rember the difference between prop size & pitch, can someone explaine?

The pitch is the angle the prop blade sits to the air stream. The greater the pitch the more agressive the prop.

Normally if you go up in diameter you go down in pitch.

The engine can only do so much work until its over loaded. A greater pitch prop of the same diameter will turn at lower RPM's due to the work load on the engine.

The idea is to have your engine operating in its optimal RPM range with a prop that provides the best performance for your aircraft.

Oh, one more thing.. where's your pilot?

I am waiting to fly the plane first, and if all goes well I am going to install the scale cockpit.

Here's what Super Tiger recommends for prop size on the G90... 11x8, 11x9, 12x7, 12x8, 12x9, 13x6, 13x7. Out of those props what would be best to use onmy 9 pound Corsair? Ihave 13x6 on it for the break in perriod. Iwant to to be quick and have power, andbe able tothrottlebackand havea relaxing funflyer. The people at my hobbie shop don't know much of anything about anything other than electric.

Fly it with the 13x6 and see how you like it.

I have the Top Flight Corsair with a Super Tigre .75 in it. I have found that the APC 13x6 gives great performance. I would try that first. A 14x5 would be a good prop too. You will have to be careful not to over prop the engine and risk over heating it.

You can try the smaller props until its fully broken in. 12x7 or 12x8. fly it rich medium smoke coming out the exhaust for about a gallon. Then go to the 13s see how you like them.

Back in 1996 MAN had a review of the ST 90 and tested this engine with huge props. I have used a 16x6 prop on this motor but think it is a bit to much. For heavy warbirds I like a bit more pitch, I will not be hanging it on the prop vertical. IMHO 8" pitch at a reasonable dia will give good speed. You should know a good rpm range for your engine and use props that will stay in that range. You probably should try a few different sizes to see what works best for you.
