Got up this morning sanded down the fuse and put on the styro spray 1000

Here are the weight numbers

before Styro spray

5 pounds 9 oz

after styro spray

5 pounds 11 oz

It took longer to mix the stuff up then it did to put it on. I stood the fuse on its end started at the top. This stuff is thin so I got a couple of runs I just rolled them out. Very easy and fast

I believe the water-based sealer has a bigger chance of warping the surface if not applied carefully.

Im very pleased with the out come this morning. I dont belive this product has a 6 month shelf life if its not mixed. The roler pan i used has a skin over the product but its still liquid. I think if you keep them separate the shelf life is much longer then 6 months. Thats only a thought for now we will see.

I hope the photos show how nice and glossy this stuff comes out. the wing is next then on to primer and paint.

As has already been said, Glass cloth doesn't look much like old fabric covering
I can remember years ago, late 80's actually, stumbling onto a Beech Staggerwing, in a wooden hanger. The airport was in Manchester MA.

I flew in with my Lake LA4-200T. I don't remember why we stopped in? Food probably or to use the bathroom?

The interesting thing about this Beech, is you couldn't tell it was fabric covered. It was nicely painted with enough paint to make the surface shiny and slick. The weave was sealed completely.

I also imagine, it didn't take much time for builders of speed aircraft, to realize that Golden Era Racers flew much faster with slick painted surfaces, covering completely the weave of the fabric. Could I be wrong about this?

It's nice to have and to believe there's "time saving" products on the market and I have absolutely no issues with those that use these products or issues with the results they get. Aren't ARF's time saving products?

One does have the benefit of choice.

Anyway, myself personally, I'm hardly old school, but...

I'll still stay with my award winning game.

Polyester resin and glass cloth.

Weight issue? I've never put a model or a part on a scale, and probably never will.

Well it looks like I’m done with this project. I have done the task I set out to do. I will see how this stuff holds up over the next few months and by midsummer I should be ready to finish my 102 inch FW190a. By then I should know if this is the silver bullet that replaces resin and cloth.

Thanks to all you guys who have followed this thread and given help / suggestions on how to use this product. I hope the information on this thread will be helpful to those interested.

What was the reasoning for using sanding sealer instead of just the styro onto the bare wood?

Box car came up with that idea. It sealed the wood and made a very smooth surface without a bunch of sanding. The SS applied over the sanding sealer comes out like glass with just 1 coat.

Rustoleum primer for general primer work, Automotive "high build" primer for panel lines and spots not worthy of spot putty, then any thing that gives me the color I need; whether it be from the home improvement store, the hobby shop, or the autoparts store. the entire model gets a coat of Nelson's or KlassKote clear when done for fuel proofing so I don't worry whether or not my colors are fuel resistant.

I like the smell of nail polish. It reminds me of Aerogloss dope.

Wanted to drop an update. i did the wings on sunday. They came out very nice. the more you use this product the better it works for you. these parts look like they have glass on them. The fuse has been done for almost a week i plan on waiting 7 days to allow complete curing just in case. This stuff come out nice i just hope it holds up well.

Seeing you mention Nelson's Hobby Paint reminded me.. I slipped over to his site earlier to pick up some primer and noticed he's shut down his business due to financial constraints and he was just diagnosed with prostate cancer. Here's to hoping for Jerry's speedy recovery.

What other primer works well with Nelson's?

I noticed you really thinnned the material and it appeared clear, where the WOW video he applies it without being thinnned and it really created a white glossy smooth surface. And he only did one coat vs your 2-3 coats.

Any benefit doing it either way?

Yep you’re right i did thin it out. I only use 1 coat now. It comes out super glossy and is super light. This is how i have decided to use to use the product. I’m not saying it’s correct, but it looks like it will do what i am wanting it to do. Below is the video of me putting it on the fuse.

I will post photos of the wing tonight. It works very very easy when thin.

Great Job, does any one know what colors can be added to SS, red was mentioned in an early post.

If one thin coat does the trick, why not. The wow vid does not say anything about using sanding sealer so maybe he makes it up by using a thick coat of the Styro. Either way, it looks good.
