swept wing Fw 190
found this of an apparent swept wing Fw 190. never seen a version like this before.
can anybody shed a little more light on it? looks like it would be an interesting build.

Very interesting.. but sort of a silly idea:
Swept wings have limited functionality on a prop-driven aircraft. Any advantages gained by making the wing capable of approaching sonic speeds are just going to create problems with the propellor in the transonic realm. Then again, maybe someone will counter-comment?

RE: swept wing Fw 190
yup. that L-39 was a direct result of captured German documents. was built after the fall of Berlin.
the above example Fw 190-V19 was brained-up in early 1943.
@ IL2windhawk
good points, perhaps it had more to do with climb-rates and overall speed to intercept B-17's?

RE: swept wing Fw 190
The cranked wing increased Mcrit (Mach critical speed) when doing dives, but I don't see the use with that massive radial in front just catching all the air. Had they fitted the DB or Jumo on it and had a more streamlined fuse....
It could also possibly help improve handling, especially at lower speeds.
I have some more data in some of my Fw 190 books, if you guys are interested...

I would love to see a picture of an actual build plane if they ever built a prototype?

RE: swept wing Fw 190
I'm sure theres a photo somewhere. the normal Fw 190 was actually pretty sercetative. the Americans
didn't even know about it until they got reports from the RAF. they didn't see one until A2A combat in
N. Africa. Evil will correct me somewhat on this I'm sure lol.

Looks like it MAY have been a real experimental project. Not sure if it got beyond the drawing board or not.
Here's an interpretation with a different engine.

Or maybe it belongs here?

I did not see it on the Luft46 site, but it could be too conventional for that...

Well I think the Jumo powered one was a pipedream for sure. otherwise its
possible that no version of the " Falcon " was made. I agree with the Luft46
site
