Oh man....hate to hear about that...what happened? Question please....I want to do some scale work on mine....I plan on using Petes rivets, some thin tape sprayed over to dull/weather finish, and decals...what would be the correct order to apply these? Thanks, B7

LBJ.....I am really interested in how you are doing with the Hellcat.....if you have started it? Also, what are the options to finish the ARC ? Thanks, B7

blue77,

I am in the middle of selling my home, have ALL my R/C tools and stuff in storage, and only bought the F6F now because of the $100 off special and Tom lives just a short way from me. It was like no taxes and almost free shipping! I was therefore forced to buy one. ha. Been telling myself if someone came out with a larger version of the H9 F6F ARF, I'd buy it.

All I have done so far is to look her over and try to decide what I am going to do on the paint scheme. I discussed that previously. But nothing yet as far as assembly. I'll have to wait till I get a temp apartment to do anything at all. And then it's iffy as I'll be out looking for a new place to live most of the time.

For covering, you could glass it and paint, but that's more than I want to do. Not looking for so much scale detail, just want it to look nice and fly great. Solar Tex is likely what I will cover her with and possibly paint over that, unless I find a S.T. color that would work from the start. Sig Koverall with butyrate dope would also work, and then paint over that.

Monokote or any other roll covering would work too, just trying to get away from the high gloss finish. As far as that goes, one can paint over gloss coverings as I did that with a KMP P-38 ARF. It came with silver monokote (or some brand) wings which I didn't like so I painted over that with fu-fu can silver on top and yellow house paint from Lowe's underside. Sanded with some very fine paper and then cleaned with thinner before paint. Paint's still on there after about 2 years.

LBJ...I am in a situation were I can't leave the house very often, due to wifes health, so I have lots of time to build, can't get away to fly. I almost wish I had gotten the ARC, and if Tom offers the discount on just the plane I may get one. If I do I would want to have panel lines and rivets so glass might be the better way to go....Thanks, and good luck with the move...B7

I do, the ARC plane is only $579.00 plus the shipping right now.

Problem is I only have 1 left so it could be sold at any time.

Blue77, Hope your wife's health improves. I took care of my Mother during her last years. Wasn't always easy to do.

I'll attach a pic of my H9 P-47 with panel lines over the covering. You don't need to add the weight of glass, as most overdo the epoxy and add needless weight. A good fine tip marker over even monokote will look just fine.

According to his website, Tom says any "model" or "model combo" in stock. I'd ask him about the ARC to see if he has one without the combo. You're gonna need the retracts sooner or later, so no easy way out of that one. But, they can wait a while.

Some panel lines, dusting with airbrush, and matte spray and you are ready to go!

Got one of the last ARCs to replace my 'cat. This will probably be the scheme - one color easy. Will use flat Monokote to cover.

B7, no, not available as H9/Horizon Hobby dropped the P-47 and it was one of their best planes. Built much like the WH F6F with split wings and all balsa construction. I had to hunt this one down on RCU myself. _E-Powered with the Turnigy 80cc equivalent motor. Got lots more big en's, but don't want to dominate this F6F thread. I can post a few links here to my listings which won't take up much space.

The PC-21 is a show bird. Very nice, smooth, and the folks love to see her do a photo pass. I am going to install a larger motor to run on a full 50 volts (12S or twelve cells of LiPoy batts). The present one is a bit over taxed on 50 V. Blew out the Speed Controller before the last flight. Very considerate of her to do that BEFORE I took off! Good girl!

Solar Tex is found at Balsa USA on large rolls which is what you would need for the F6F. Natural transparent is the color if you are going to paint and that is what BUSA recommends. Not sure I am going to go natural transparent. Could go Koverite, so, don't take just my word for it! ha. The Solar Tex orange might look close to one version of the drone. Be nice to cover and be done.

From Wild Hare R/C. I have about 5 of them left at this point.

All of the uncovered planes are sold, however.

Well - nothing to discuss really - I just made a stupid mistake. Anyhow, here's the tailfeathers covered in flat Monokote.

Capt G, You covered that one fast! Looks good. That flat finish Monokote looks very good.

I am changing my color scheme slightly to a pure Orange Drone. Going to go direct color with Solartex Orange. I'll have to paint the cockpit and cowl to match with Lowe's semi-gloss paint. I'll have the local graphics guy do the Stars and Bars and other text markings and will paint the fin flash with foo-foo can white paint. I ordered 4 regular rolls of Solartex, blue77, you were wanting to know how much to order. Might be a bit more than I need, but rather have too much than be 6 inches short on the last piece. with S&H the cost was about $104. Covering is not cheap. It's really cheaper to buy the thing factory covered and then matte spray it unless you really want something different. I'm the square peg. ha
